SCRANTON, Pa.- The Immaculata University women's basketball team remained unbeaten in conference play on Thursday night, using a dominant overtime performance to secure a 73–62 victory over Marywood University at Insalaco Arena.
Carly Coleman delivered a dominant all-around performance to lead the Mighty Macs, recording her 12th double-double of the season with 23 points and 13 rebounds, while also adding six assists, six steals, and a block.
Olivia Ettorre chipped in with 17 points, six rebounds, two assists, and four steals, while
Sabrina Little and
Riley Cassidy each scored nine points.
With the win, Immaculata improves to 15-3 overall and 7-0 in conference play. Marywood drops to 9-10 overall and 4-3 in the Atlantic East.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST MARYWOOD
- The opening quarter featured strong defensive pressure from both teams. Marywood connected on multiple three-pointers to build a 13–8 advantage before Ettorre and Cassidy each hit late jumpers to pull Immaculata within one, trailing 15–14 after the first.
- Ettorre gave the Mighty Macs a brief lead early in the second quarter, but Marywood responded to regain the advantage. Julia Pohl provided a spark off the bench late in the half, knocking down two jumpers and a free throw as Immaculata went into halftime down just 24–23.
- Immaculata came out aggressively in the third quarter, forcing turnovers and converting in transition. Coleman and Ettorre led the surge, with Coleman scoring nine points in the period as the Mighty Macs carried a 42–40 lead into the fourth.
- The final quarter was tightly contested, featuring multiple lead changes. Late baskets from Coleman and Abby Grillo helped Immaculata stay ahead, but Marywood tied the game at 60–60 in the final minute. Neither team was able to score before the buzzer, sending the game to overtime.
- Immaculata quickly seized control in the extra period. Ettorre opened overtime with a three-pointer and a free throw, followed by a steal and three-point play from Little to extend the lead to 67–60. Cassidy added a layup, and the Mighty Macs held Marywood scoreless for much of the overtime period. Coleman and Little each hit a pair of free throws as Immaculata closed out the win 73-62.
