PHOENIXVILLE, Pa. – Immaculata men's volleyball cruised to their first victory of the new campaign Wednesday night, taking down the University of Valley Forge Patriots 3-0.
The Mighty Macs are 1-1 for the season. Their first UEC game will be on Tuesday, March 3 versus Gallaudet.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST VALLEY FORGE
- The Mighty Macs jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead behind multiple Valley Forge errors. Although the Patriots would close the gap in the middle of the set, a 9-1 Immaculata push gave them a comfortable advantage. Kills from Nate Bailey and aces by Luke Dortenzo were key to the run. A Patriots service error ended the set for Immaculata 25-11.
- The home team had early momentum in the second set, going up 5-4. Despite this, Immaculata took control by scoring the next 13 points. In the final six points of that run, Noah Zunski logged five aces. Valley Forge had no answers for Immaculata's offense, with the Mighty Macs securing a 25-8 win in set two.
- The Mighty Macs wasted no time gaining the initial third set momentum, scoring 10 of 12 points to start. Josh McGurl and Zunski continued their solid play, tallying up kills in the latter half of the set. Back-to-back Brandon Lieberman kills finished off the match. Immaculata won the last set 25-8, and the match 3-0.
