IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Immaculata University men's volleyball team opened the 2026 season Friday evening with a non-conference matchup against Randolph-Macon, which received votes in the NCAA Division III American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top 20 preseason poll. The Mighty Macs fell to the Yellow Jackets, 3–0 (25–19, 25–13, 25–23), at Alumnae Hall.
Immaculata battled throughout the evening, particularly in the opening and closing sets, but Randolph-Macon used efficient attacking and sustained service pressure to earn the road victory.
Offensively,
Josh McGurl led the Mighty Macs with
six kills, while
Noah Zunski added
five kills.
Luke Dortenzo directed the offense with 14 assists, and Immaculata recorded 53 digs, led by McGurl and libero
J.P. Farrely, who anchored the back row.
With the loss, Immaculata moves to
0-1 on the season, while Randolph-Macon improves to
2-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED VS. RANDOLPH-MACON
- Immaculata kept the first set close early, trading points through the opening stretch. Michael Prall served four straight points as the Mighty Macs cut the deficit to 11–10.
- Randolph-Macon pulled away midway through the frame and closed the set on a late run to take a 25–19 advantage.
- The Yellow Jackets carried momentum into the second set, using service runs to disrupt Immaculata's offensive rhythm and pull away for a 25–13 win.
- The third set featured Immaculata's strongest response. The Mighty Macs traded leads throughout tying the score at 20–20, and briefly took a 22–20 lead as Alex Corsones served four consecutive points, including a kill by Noah Zunski.
- Randolph-Macon responded by winning five of the final six points to close the match with a 25–23 third-set victory.
