Field Hockey Defeats FDU-Florham, 3-1, in Season Opener

MADISON, N.J.- The Immaculata field hockey team secured a 3-1 non-conference road victory over FDU-Florham in their season opener on Saturday afternoon.
 
Alexis Andrada scored two goals, and Alexa Marczak scored the eventual game winner late in the first quarter that gave the Mighty Macs a lead they would not surrender.
 
With the win the Mighty Macs are 1-0 for the season. FDU-Florham falls to 0-1.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST FDU-FLORHAM
  • FDU-Florham earned a penalty corner in the games first minute, which Immaculata successfully defended with a blocked shot.
  • Alexis Andrada opened the scoring knocking in her own rebound for her first goal of the season to give Immaculata a 1-0 lead at 7:05 of the first quarter.
  • FDU-Florham responded with a goal by Emma Dombrowski just :48 seconds later off a penalty corner to tie the score ate 1-1.
  • Immaculata regained the lead with18 seconds remaining in the first quarter, as Alexa Marczak scored her first goal of the season and her first collegiate goal when she stopped a clearance from a penalty corner, and her shot found the back of the cage to give the Mighty Macs the 2-1 lead.
  • Alexis Andrada sealed the game with nine minutes remaining in the fourth quarter from a penalty corner inserted by Abby Fekete, and she patiently waited to lift the ball into the cage to give the Mighty Macs a 3-1 lead.
