Baseball bests Marymount in season finale; Clinches Atlantic East Playoff berth

IMMACULATA, Pa.- On Saturday, the Immaculata University baseball team won both ends of their Atlantic East Conference Doubleheader to conclude their regular season. The Mighty Macs clinched a spot in the Conference tournament with their 15-5 win in the opener, before beating Marymount 8-5 in the second game. 

Immaculata joins Marymount (11-4 AEC), Neumann (11-4) and Centenary (7-8) in the Atlantic East Conference Tournament, set to begin on Wednesday, May 7th.

Game One

How it Happened 
  • Marymount was first on the board, plating a pair of unearned runs in the top of the first inning. The Saints took a 3-0 lead in the third inning on a sacrifice fly to right. 
  • Immaculata responded quickly, tying the score in the bottom of the third on a bases-loaded triple from Sal Serici. Serici drove Robert Woodward, Matt Passerini, and Ryan Nace in on the play.
  • Marymount took a two run lead with two more unearned runs in the top of the fourth inning. The Saints would score on a single and a sacrifice fly to left.
  • The Mighty Macs used a five-run fourth inning to take a three run lead. Maddox Stern led off the inning with a single followed by a walk from Robert Woodward. Steven Theisen knocked both runners in with a double to right field. Ryan Nace doubled to left, scoring Theisen. Sal Serici singled and used a delayed steal to swipe second, placing runners on second and third. Ryan Struble delivered a two-run single to put Immaculata ahead 8-5.
  • Immaculata took a 10-5 lead in the fifth, as Steven Theisen hit a sac fly to score Robert Woodward and Nick Turnage singled to bring Matt Passerini across the plate.
  • Immaculata spotted five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, as the Mighty Macs collected four hits and four stolen bases, including a double steal from Will Kelley and Ryan Struble. Nick Turnage had a double to center field that delivered Immaculata's 15th run.
  • Alex LePage pitched a scoreless fifth, sixth, and seventh inning to earn his sixth win of the season.

  • Alex LePage threw all seven innings, surrendering one earned run and striking out five.
  • Sal Serici was 3-5 with a triple, two runs, three RBIs, and a stolen base.
  • Steven Theisen went 2-4 with a double, two runs, and five RBIs.

How it Happened 
  • Immaculata plated six runs in the second inning to take control early. In the frame, Joey Steff, Jacob Kupsey, and JT Luther each had RBI singles before Kristian Saucedo had an RBI double.
  • Jordan Silvestri blanked the Saints through three innings, allowing one hit, one walk, and fanning four batters. Julio Falcon pitched a scoreless fourth and fifth inning, allowing no hits, one walk and striking out one. Aidan Jackson took the sixth and seventh inning, allowing two hits, no walks, while recording three strikeouts.
  • Immaculata added their seventh run to take 7-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth.
  • Marymount made a late push, posting three runs in the eighth inning and two in the ninth. Immaculata would win their regular season finale, 8-5, to wrap up play before the Atlantic East Conference playoffs.

On Deck
  • Immaculata will play Marymount University in the opening round of the Atlantic East Conference Tournament, with a game set for Wednesday, April 7th.
In the Hole
  • The Mighty Macs return to the diamond to play either Neumann University or Centenary University on Friday, May 9th, dependent on the results of the First Round.
  • Games on Friday, May 9th and Saturday, May 10th will be played at the site of the top-seeded team in the Atlantic East Conference Tournament.
