Softball walks off Neumann to settle Senior Day doubleheader

IMMACULATA, Pa.- On Saturday afternoon, The Immaculata softball team split their two game set against Neumann University during the program's senior day. The Mighty Macs comeback bid fell short in game one, ending in a 6-4 final score in favor of the Knights. Immaculata responded in the second matchup, using the mid-innings to generate an eight run lead and taking the second matchup 10-2 in five innings following a walk-off single from Jess Oldham.

Immaculata picked up their tenth win on the season and moved to 3-1 against Atlantic East Conference opponents following their sweep of Marymount and split with Neumann. Neumann also sits 3-1 in conference play, as the Knights entered Saturday 2-0 having swept the defending Atlantic East champions, Centenary University.

Between games, the Immaculata softball program shed light on the seven athletes spending their final season with the Mighty Macs. The group includes seniors Emma Mercadante, Bryele Anthony, Emma Murphy, Allison Hill, and Steph Kelly, as well as fifth-years Riece Onorato and Jess Oldham.

  • Carlee Karcher went 2-3 at the plate with a double.
  • Kate Daly was 2-3 with a run scored.
  • Maddy Formica went 2-4 with a run and stolen base.
  • Emma Mercadante pitched all seven innings for the Mighty Macs, allowing four earned runs and striking out two. 

Player Milestone 
During the Mighty Macs' comeback effort, Jess Oldham slashed an RBI double to record her 100th career run batted in.

  • Immaculata's lineup was lively during their run-rule victory over Neumann.
  • Jess Oldham and Maddy Formica each went 3-4 with a pair of runs scored. Oldham drove in two runs as Formica delivered one.
  • Allison Hill was 2-3 with a double and 2 RBIs. Steph Kelly also went 2-3, crossing the plate three times.
  • Carlee Karcher was 1-2 at the plate with a single, a walk, an RBI, and two runs.
  • Rylee Martin wents 1-3 with 3 RBIs, while Bryele Anthony went 2-4 with a run.
  • Riece Onorato pitched the duration of the contest, surrendering two runs, no walks, and striking out two.

Immaculata heads to Chester on Thursday, April 10th for a two game set with Widener University. Thursday's afternoon's doubleheader features games at 3pm and 5pm.

In the Hole
The Mighty Macs return to Atlantic East Conference play on Saturday, April 12th, when Immaculata travels to face Centenary University twice. Game times are set for 12pm and 2pm on Saturday afternoon.
