Softball Drops Non-Conference Doubleheader to Haverford

IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata softball team dropped a pair of non-conference games to Haverford College on Thursday afternoon at the IU Softball Field. Immaculata falls to 9-13 overall, and they are 2-0 in Atlantic East Conference play. Haverford improves to 12-10 overall, and they are 2-2 in centennial conference play.
 
Game One: Haverford 9, Immaculata 2
 
How it Happened
  • Haverford opened the scoring with a run in the top of the second inning to take a 1-0 lead.
  • In the bottom of the second, Emma Pinto hit a single to center field to score Rylee Martin, and Kate Daly drew a bases loaded walk to score Allison Hill to give Immaculata a 2-1 lead.
  • Haverford regained the lead in the top of the third inning, scoring three times to take a 4-2 lead.
  • Haverford added a run in the top of the fourth inning, and scored two runs in the fifth inning, and two in the sixth to extend the lead to 9-2.
  • Haverford was able to close out the game to win 9-2.

  • Rylee Martin was 1-3 with a run scored.
  • Allison Hill was 1-3 with a run scored.
  • Emma Pinto was 1-3 with an RBI and threw out a runner stealing.
  • Kate Daly worked a bases loaded walk to pick an RBI.
  • Emma Mercadante took the loss for Immaculata to fall to 4-5, pitching the full seven innings allowing five earned runs, and had three strikeouts.

How it Happened
  • Haverford took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a solo home run to center field.
  • In the bottom of the first Jess Oldham tripled to right field to score Bryele Anthony and Maddy Formica. Rylee Martin doubled to center field to score Jess Oldham, and Lily Hagan scored Rylee Martin with a sacrifice fly as Immaculata took a 4-1 lead.
  • Haverford got a run back in the top of the third on a solo home run to left field to make the score 4-2.
  • Immaculata extended their lead to 6-2 when Isabella Pastella reached on an error by the first baseman that allowed Jess Oldham and Carlee Karcher to score.
  • Haverford scored five runs in the top of the sixth to take a 7-6 lead.
  • Immaculata threatened in the bottom of the sixth when Bryele Anthony singled to center with one out in the bottom of the sixth. She stole second base but was thrown out attempting to steal third base.
  • Haverford plated a pair of insurance runs in the top of the seventh to increase the lead to 9-6.
  • Jess Oldham led off the seventh with a double to right center. Rylee Martin was hit by a pitch to bring the tying run to the plate. Carlee Karcher reached a fielder's choice with Jess Oldham being forced out at third, and Rylee Martin moving to second. Lily Hagan hit a hard-liner drive right at the first baseman who made the catch and double off Karcher at first to close out the game.

  • The Immaculata softball team will be back in action on Saturday when they host Neumann for an Atlantic East Conference doubleheader at 12:00 p.m. at the IU Softball Field.
  • Saturday will be senior day for Immaculata as they honor seniors Bryele Anthony, Allison Hill, Steph Kelly, Emma Mercadante, and Emma Murphy.
