Softball Drops Two at Marywood, but Secures Third Seed in the AEC Tournament

SCRANTON, Pa.- The Immaculata softball team dropped both games of their doubleheader at Marywood on Sunday. Immaculata fell 11-4 in game one, and 8-0 in game two. Bryele Anthony was 4-4 in game one with three stolen bases, and two runs scored. Anthony reached the 100 stolen base mark, with her steal in the first inning of game one. She went 1-2 with a stolen base in game two.  

With the loss Immaculata falls to 14-22 overall and finishes 5-5 in Atlantic East Conference play. Marywood improves to 17-17 overall and is 7-3 in Atlantic East Conference play. 

Immaculata finished in a three-way tie with Neumann and Gwynedd Mercy for the third and fourth spots in the Atlantic East Conference Tournament at 5-5. Immaculata clinched the third seed in the AEC Tournament in the tiebreaker. Neumann was clinched the fourth seed, and Gwynedd Mercy was eliminated from the tournament. This will be Immaculata's first trip to the post season since 2022. 

Game One: Marywood 11, Immaculata 4 

How it Happened 

  • Immaculata took a 2-0 lead in top of the first inning when Jess Oldham hit a two-run single to center field scoring Bryele Anthony and Maddy Formica. The two RBIs gave Oldham the IU single season record for RBIs with 50. 

  • Marywood got a run back in the bottom of the first inning on RBI double to center field to make the score 2-1. 

  • Marywood scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 5-3 lead. 

  • Marywood would add a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, and four additional runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on their way to taking game one 11-4.

  • Bryele Anthony was 4-4 with two runs scored, and three stolen bases. 

Game Two: Marywood 8, Immaculata 0 (5 innings) 

How it Happened 

  • Marywood opened the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 3-0 lead. 

  • Marywood added a single run in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI single. 

  • Marywood extended their lead to 6-0 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. 

  • Marywood scored a pair of runs to end the game in the bottom of the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly to win 8-0 in five innings.

  • Immaculata advances to the Atlantic East Conference Tournament as the #3 seed and will play #2 seed Marywood in the first round on Saturday, Mary 3rd at Marymount University. 

  • The Atlantic East Conference Tournament is a four-team double-elimination tournament hosted by #1 seed Marymount, who will play #4 seed Neumann in the first round. The tournament will be run over two days on Saturday, May 3rd, and Sunday May 4th.
