Softball Defeats Marywood 3-2 in Eight Innings in AEC Tournament Opener

WINCHESTER, Va.- Immaculata opened the Atlantic East Conference Tournament defeating Marywood 3-2 in eight innings in their first post-season game since 2022. Bryele Anthony singled to right field to score Kate Daly in the top of the eighth to give Immaculata a 3-2 lead. Riece Onorato earned the complete game win to improve to 9-6 this season. Immaculata advances to play the number seed Marymount who defeated Neumann in game four scheduled for 5:00 p.m. 

Game No. 2 – Immaculata 3, Marymount 2 (8 innings) 

How it Happened 

  • Immaculata opened the scoring in the top of the first inning when Jess Oldham singled to left field to score Bryele Anthony, and Maddy Formica advanced to third base. Carlee Karcher scored Formica on a ground out to second base to give Immaculata a 2-0 lead. 

  • Marywood tied the game in the bottom of the fifth inning with an RBI double and a sacrifice fly to right field. 

  • In the top of the eighth inning, Kate Daly got a two out infield single to third base. She advanced to second base on Steph Kelly's Walk. Bryele Anthony then singled to right field to score Daly to give Immaculata a 3-2 lead.  In the post season they do not use the international tiebreaker.  

  • After surrendering a leadoff single in the bottom of the eighth inning, Riece Onorato retired the next three batters to close out the win. 

Inside the Numbers 

  • Bryele Anthony was 2-4 with a run scored, a stolen base, and the game winning RBI. 

  • Riece Onorato earned the complete game win allowing eight hits, two earned runs, and six strikeouts. 

Up Next 

  • Due to multiple delays due to inclement weather, game three of the tournament between Neumann and Marywood was suspended for the night with Neumann leading 7-3 in the top of the fifth inning. That game will be completed on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. with the loser being eliminated. 

  • Immaculata will play Marymount following that game on Sunday at 12:00 p.m..
