Softball Splits Atlantic East Conference Doubleheader with Gwynedd Mercy

IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata softball team earned a split with Gwynedd Mercy in their Atlantic East Conference doubleheader on Thursday afternoon. Immaculata won game one 10-5, before falling to 6-3 in game two. Jess Oldham went 4-4 with four runs scored, a home run, and three RBIs, and Rylee Martin went 2-3 with a run scored, and five RBIs for Immaculata in game one. Riece Onorato earned the win for Immaculata. Carlee Karcher went 2-4 with a run scored, a home run, and two RBIs for Immaculata in game two.
 
With the split Immaculata moves to 13-17 overall, and they are 5-3 in Atlantic East Conference play. Gwynedd Mercy moves to 8-21 overall, and they are 4-4 in Atlantic East Conference play.
 
Game One: Immaculata 10, Gwynedd Mercy 5
 
How it Happened
  • Gwynedd Mercy scored a run in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead.
  • In the bottom of the first Maddy Formica singled, and Jess Oldham followed with a two-run home run to center field to give Immaculata a 2-1 lead. Rylee Martin increased Immaculata's lead to 3-1 with an RBI single to left center to score Carlee Karcher.
  • Gwynedd Mercy scored a run in the top of the third on a sacrifice fly to left field to make the score 3-2.
  • In the bottom of the third Rylee Martin hit a two-run single to right field to score Jess Oldham and Carlee Karcher. Kate Daly would drive in Rylee Martin on a fielder's choice as Immaculata increased their lead to 6-2.
  • Gwynedd Mercy would not go quietly as they scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning to close the lead to 6-5.
  • Immaculata extended their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when Jess Oldham doubled to right center scoring Maddy Formica. Oldham would score when Rylee Martin earned an RBI on a ground out to the pitcher.
  • Immaculata added a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning when Rylee Martin hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Maddy Formica. Allison Hill hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Jess Oldham to increase the Immaculata lead to 10-5.
  • Gwynedd Mercy loaded the bases with one out in the top of the seventh inning. Riece Onorato closed out the win inducing a pop out the second base, and a ground out to short stop to earn the 10-5 win.

  • Jess Oldham was 4-4 with four runs scored, a double, a home run and three RBIs.

Game Two: Gwynedd Mercy 6, Immaculata 3
 
How it Happened
  • Gwynedd Mercy opened the scoring in the top of the second inning with a bases loaded walk, and a three run double to take a 4-0 lead.
  • Carlee Karcher hit a solo home run to center field in the bottom of the second inning to make the score 4-1.
  • Immaculata got their second run in the bottom of the third inning when Carlee Karcher hit an RBI double off the wall in left field to score Maddy Formica.
  • Gwynedd Mercy added a run on a sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth inning to increase their lead to 5-2.
  • Immaculata got a run back in the bottom of the fourth inning when Bryele Anthony singled to left field to score Allison Hill to close the Gwynedd Mercy lead to 5-3.
  • Gwynedd Mercy added a run in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI single. The Griffins bid for a second run was denied when center fielder Bryele Anthony threw out the runner at the plate attempting to score. Emma Pinto caught the throw and applied the tag to keep the score at 6-3.
  • Gwynedd was able to hold on to earn the split winning game two 6-3.
 
Inside the Numbers
  • Carlee Karcher was 2-4, with a run scored, with a double, a home run, and two RBIs.
  • Bryele Anthony was 1-4 with an RBI.
  • Steph Kelly was 2-3 and had a great diving catch on a fly ball in foul territory.
  • Kate Daly was 2-3.
  • Emma Mercadante took the loss going the full seven innings, allowing nine hits, and four earned runs.
