Softball Splits Atlantic East Conference Doubleheader at Centenary

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J.- The Immaculata softball team earned a split in their Atlantic East Conference doubleheader at Centenary on Monday afternoon. Immaculata won game one 9-0 in six innings, before a late rally fell short in game two as they fell to the Cyclones 11-9. Jess Oldham led Immaculata by going a combined 5-9 with two runs scores, two doubles, a home run, and 7 RBIs on the day. Riece Onorato threw a seven hit complete game shutout to earn the win in game one with two strikeouts. With the split Immaculata is now 12-16 overall, and 4-2 in Atlantic East Conference play. Centenary is now 3-19 overall and are 1-5 in Atlantic East Conference play.

How it Happened
  • Immaculata opened the scoring in the top of the first when Carlee Karcher grounded out to shortstop to score Bryele Anthony to give Immaculata a 1-0 lead.
  • Immaculata extended their lead to 2-0 in the top of the third, when Carlee Karcher got a hit to rightfield that got through the right fielder and allowed Maddy Formica to score all the way from first, and Karcher advanced to third.
  • In the fifth inning, Jess Oldham singled up the middle to score Kate Daly and Bryele Anthony. Rylee Martin tripled to center field to score Maddy Formica and Oldham. Allison Hill drove in Martin on a ground out to shortstop to extend the Immaculata lead to 7-0.
  • Jess Oldham hit a two run double to left center in the top of the sixth to score Bryele Anthony and Steph Kelly to make the score 9-0.
  • In the bottom of the sixth Riece Onorato field a ball hit back up the middle and started a 1-6-3 double play to close out the win 9-0.

  • Bryele Anthony scored three runs, drew three walks, and had a stolen base.

How it Happened
  • Centenary opened the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the first inning taking a 3-0 lead.
  • Immaculata got two runs back in the top of the second when Kate Daly reached on an error by the catcher that allowed Emma Pinto and Allison Hill to score to cut the lead to 3-2.
  • Centenary added three more runs in the bottom of the second on a three-run triple to extend their lead to 6-2.
  • Centenary increased their lead to 11-2 with a five spot in the fourth inning.
  • Jess Oldham hit a solo home run to lead off the fifth inning for Immaculata. Carlee Karcher followed with a double and scored on an RBI single by Emma Pinto to make the score 11-4.
  • Immaculata made a late run in the top of the seventh. Rylee Martin led off with a double. She scored when Emma Pinto reached an error by the shortstop. Maddy Formica drove in a pair of runs for Immaculata to make the score 11-7. Jess Oldham doubled to center field to score Bryele Anthony and Formica to make the score 11-9. Centenary was able to hold on getting the final out on a ground out to second base to win the game 11-9.
