Mighty Macs topple Pacers 13-3, win AEC series over Marywood

SCRANTON, Pa.- On Monday afternoon, Immaculata University baseball team took the third game of their Atlantic East Conference series with Marywood University 13-3. The Mighty Macs plated three runs in the third inning and nine in the fifth as the contest would be decided by run rule after the Pacers batted in the seventh inning. Immaculata took the series two games to one, as the teams split games during Sunday's Senior Day doubleheader. Through three Atlantic East series, the Mighty Macs sit fourth place in the Conference with a 4-5 record against AEC opponents. Immaculata heads to TCNJ tomorrow for a 3:30pm non-conference game against the Lions.

How it Happened 
  • Marywood got on the board first as the Pacers used a sacrifice fly to plate their first run in the bottom of the first inning.
  • Starting pitcher Stephen Devanney retired the Pacers in order in the second inning.
  • Immaculata posted a three run third inning. Maddox Stern walked as Robert Woodward doubled to place runners on second and third. Matt Passerini singled to left to score Stern before Steven Theisen brought Woodward home on an RBI groundout. Nick Turnage singled to center to score Passerinin for the Macs' third run. 
  • Devanney forced two flyouts in the bottom of the third before Robert Woodward threw out a runner stealing second for the final out.
  • The following inning, Marywood earned a run back to tighten the score to 3-2 IU. Alex Singer entered in relief, inducing a double play on the first batter he faced.
  • Immaculata batted around in the fifth, crossing the plate a total of nine times. Ryan Nace and Logan Barndt doubled in the frame, while Robert Woodward walked twice and Matt Passerini had a hit and a walk, each scoring twice. The Mighty Macs would take a ten run lead, 12-2.
  • Singer retired the Pacers in order to end the fifth inning.
  • The Mighty Macs added a run in the top of the sixth. Logan Barndt and Maddox Stern walked as Robert Woodward pushed Barndt to third on a 5-4 fielder's choice. Passerini drove Barndt in with a two out single.
  • Marywood sported one run across the sixth and seventh inning, as Immaculata would run-rule the Pacers after seven.
