Immaculata Baseball Falls to Russell Sage College on Sunday

DAVENPORT, Fla. - The Immaculata baseball team fell to Russell Sage 19-7 in seven innings in their second game at the RussMatt Invitational on Sunday. Immaculata opened a 5-1 lead in the top of the third inning, before the Gators would use a nine-run bottom of the fourth inning to take control of the game. Steven Theisen drove in four runs for Immaculata with a sacrifice fly and a three-run home run. With the loss Immaculata falls to 1-7 overall, with the win Russell Sage improves to 3-1 overall.

How it Happened 

  • Immaculata opened the scoring in the top of the first inning when Steven Theisen hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield to score Matt Passerini to give Immaculata a 1-0 lead. 

  • Immaculata added a run in the top of the second inning when Jacob Kupsey led off with a double. Joey Mozzone drove in Kupsey with an RBI groundout to second base to give Immaculata a 2-0 lead. 

  • Russell Sage got a run back in the bottom of the second inning on sacrifice fly to center to cut the Immaculata lead to 2-1. 

  • Immaculata extended their lead to 5-1 in the top of the third on Steven Theisen hit a three-run home run.  

  • Russell Sage scored an unearned run in the bottom of the third inning to make the score 5-2. 

  • Russell Sage scored nine runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, with five of the runs unearned as the Gators took an 11-5 lead.  

  • Immaculata got a run back in the top of the fifth inning when Robert Woodward grounded out to the pitcher scoring Blake Schantz to make the score 11-6. 

  • Russell Sage would score two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, and six runs in the bottom of the sixth run. 

  • Immaculata scored one run in the top of the seventh as Will Kelley hit an RBI single to score Ryan Nance to make the score 19-7.  

Inside the Numbers 

  • Steven Theisen was 1-1, with a sacrifice fly, a three-run home run and four RBIs. 

  • Aidan Jackson (0-2) took the loss for Immaculata pitching 3.1 allowing six hits, and five earned runs.
