ARLINGTON, Va.- The Immaculata softball team won both ends of their doubleheader at Marymount University in their Atlantic East Conference Opener. The Mighty Macs downed the Saints 11-7 in the first matchup before winning the second 5-3. In game one, Immaculata trailed by six runs entering the third inning before posting three runs in the third and a five spot in the fifth en route to their four run victory. Immaculata and Marymount traded runs in the second meeting, as the scoreboard read 2-2 through five innings. The Mighty Macs used four consecutive hits to feed a three run frame, as Immaculata closed the door on a 5-3 road win. Softball sits 2-0 in Atlantic East Conference play with today's two game sweep. The Mighty Macs look ahead to Haverford College on Thursday, April 3rd (3pm/5pm) and Neumann University on Saturday, April 5th (12pm/2pm).
Game One
Immaculata 11, Marymount 7
How it Happened
- Marymount jumped to an early six run lead, posting 3 runs in the first and second inning.Â
- Immaculata responded with three runs of their own in the third inning to cut the deficit in half. Bryele Anthony hit a leadoff double as Maddy Formica bunted her to third. Anthony scored on an RBI single from Jess Oldham. Rylee Martin followed with a double, putting runners on second and third. Oldham scored the Macs' second run on a passed ball just before Allison Hill hit a two-out double to bring in Martin.
- Emma Mercadante forced two popouts and a flyout to retire Marymount in order in the bottom of the third inning.Â
- Marymount earned back a run in the bottom of the fourth off an RBI single.
- Trailing 3-7, the Mighty Macs took the lead with an eventful fifth inning. Rylee Martin, Carlee Karcher, Allison Hill, and Emma Pinto all singled as Hill and Pinto collected RBIs. Steph Kelly put the ball in play and reached on an erroneous throw, scoring Emily Davis, pinch running for Hill. Kate Daly and Bryele Anthony followed suit with singles, scoring Pinto to tie the game at seven runs apiece. Maddy Formica then brought the go-ahead run across on an RBI groundout.
- Immaculata added another run in the top of the sixth on an RBI double from Allison Hill.
- Mercadante worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the sixth, escaping the inning by forcing a foul out and flyout as the Mighty Macs led 9-7.
- Immaculata scored their tenth and eleventh runs in the top of the seventh inning. There, Bryele Anthony led off with a single and swiped second base. Jess Oldham singled to score Anthony. Rylee Martin walked to put two runners on before Carlee Karcher scored Oldham on an RBI groundout.
- Emma Mercadante completed the final frame to defeat Marymount 11-7.

- Allison Hill reached base in all five of her plate appearances, going 3-3 with two doubles, two walks, and three RBIs.

How it Happened
- Immacualata got on the board in the top of the first inning. Bryele Anthony led off the game with a single and stole second. Jess Oldham singled to put runners on the corners before Carlee Karcher's RBI single.
- Riece Onorato took the circle for Immaculata. She'd pitch a scoreless first and second inning, retiring the Saints in order in the second. A triple in the third inning set up Marymount's first run to tie the game at 1-1.
- Allison Hill, Lily Hagan, and Kate Daly all singled in the top of the fourth inning to load the bases. Bryele Anthony hit a sacrifice fly to score Emily Davis, pinch running for Hill as Immaculata took a 2-1 lead.
- Onorato pitched to three batters in the bottom of the fourth before Marymount tied the game on a fifth-inning sac fly.Â
- Immaculata used a big sixth inning to hoist three runs and give the Mighty Macs a 5-2 lead. Kate Daly, Bryele Anthony, and Maddy Formica singled to load the bases for Jess Oldham. Oldham delivered with a 2-run single before Carlee Karcher hit a sac fly to right.
- The Mighty Macs held on for a 5-3 victory, as the Saints scored the third run before the final out.
