IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata baseball team fell to Neumann 7-5 in their Atlantic East Conference opener on Friday afternoon at the IU Baseball Stadium. Immaculata attempted to rally in the bottom of the ninth inning scoring three runs, but they rally fell short.
Will Kelley led Immaculata going 4-5 with two RBIs.
With the loss, Immaculata falls to 4-15 overall and 0-1 in Atlantic East Conference play. Neumann improves to 10-5 overall, and 1-0 in Atlantic East Conference play.
How it Happened
- Neumann scored single runs in the top of the second and the top of the third innings to take a 2-0 lead.
- Immaculata got on the board in the bottom of the third inning when Matt Passerini singled to left field to score Robert Woodward to make the score 2-1. Immaculata hit into an inning ending double play to keep the score 2-1.
- Neumann extended their lead in the top of the fifth inning taking advantage of a fielding error by Immaculata, to take a 5-1 lead.
- With two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning, Maddox Stern just missed hitting a home run as the ball hit the wall for a triple. Stern scored on an RBI single by Will Kelley.
- Neumann added a run in the top of the eighth inning on an error by Immaculata to increase their lead to 6-2.
- Immaculata threatened getting two runners on in the bottom of the eighth as Matt Passerini was hit by a pitch, and Steven Theisen dropped a bunt single. Unfortunately, for the Mighty Macs they hit into another inning ending double play.
- Neumann hit a solo home run to left field to increase their lead to 7-2.
- In the ninth inning, Will Kelley singled to left center for his fourth hit of the game, scoring Sal Serici and moving Robert Woodward to third base. Matt Passerini worked a walk to load the bases. Steven Theisen singled up the middle to score Woodward and Kelley to make the score 7-5. Nick Turnage pinch hit and grounded out to short stop to end the game.
