Softball Drops Two at Swarthmore on Saturday

SWARTHMORE, Pa.- The Immaculata softball team fell to Swarthmore in both games of their doubleheader on Saturday at Clothier Softball Fields. Swarthmore took game one 7-0 using a four-run third inning to break the game open. In game two, the Garnet used a six-run fifth inning to take a 6-2 lead. Immaculata rallied for four runs in the top of the sixth inning to tie the score. Swarthmore scored four runs in the bottom of the six to take game two 10-6. Immaculata falls to 6-6 overall, and Swarthmore improves to 9-7 overall. 

Game One: Swarthmore 7, Immaculata 0 

How it Happened 

  • Swarthmore opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. 

  • Swarthmore increased their lead to 5-0 with four runs in the bottom of the third. 

  • Swarthmore added a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 7-0 lead.  

  • The Garnet held on to take game one 7-0. 

Inside the Numbers 

  • Emma Mercadante (3-2) took the loss going 4 innings, allowing eight hits, six earned runs and had one strikeout. 

  • Nadia Bhuiyan pitched 2.0 innings of scoreless relief, with one strikeout. 

Game Two: Swarthmore 10, Immaculata 6 

How it Happened 

  • Immaculata opened the scoring in the top of the first inning when Jess Oldham singled up the middle to score Bryele Anthony to give Immaculata a 1-0 lead. 

  • Immaculata extended their lead in the top of the second inning when Bryele Anthony reached base on a throwing error by the third baseman that scored Riece Onorato who lead off the inning with a single.  

  • Swarthmore responded in the bottom of the fifth scoring six runs to take a 6-2 lead. 

  • The Garnet came back with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 10-6 lead. 

  • Swarthmore held on to take game two 10-6. 

Inside the Numbers 

  • Riece Onorato went 4.2 allowing four hits, six runs, four earned runs, and had two strikeouts. 

  • Nadia Bhuiyan (1-1) took the loss in relief pitching 1.1 innings of relief allowing four hits, four earned runs and had three strikeouts.

  • The Immaculata softball team is back in action on Tuesday, March 25th when they visit Ursinus College for a doubleheader at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
