Baseball stumbles in Shenadoah Tournament

WINCHESTER, Va. - On Saturday, the Immaculata University baseball team completed their second and third game of the Mr. V Memorial Tournament hosted by Shenandoah University. The Mighty Macs fell in their morning meeting with Wittenberg and their early afternoon matchup with Cortland, posting five runs in each game. Immaculata hopes to steady the ship on Wednesday, March 5th, as the team will travel to face Swarthmore.

Wittenberg took an early hold of the game as six Tigers crossed the plate in the top of the first inning. Immaculata earned a run back in the bottom of the first, as Matt Passerini led off with a double down the left field line, Sal Serici bunted him to third, and Nick Turnage brought Passerini home on an RBI groundout. The Tigers continued to produce crooked numbers, posting two runs in the second and five runs in the third inning. The Mighty Macs' got four runs across during the bottom of the fourth. Steven Theisen started the half inning with a single up the middle followed by a Jacob Kupsey walk. Robert Woodward drove in Theisen with a single of his own before Joey Steff's single to right scored Kupsey. With men on first and second, Maddox Stern bunted Steff to second and Woodward to third. Ryan Nace's double to left scored both for the Mighty Macs' fourth and fifth runs of the game. Immaculata would surrender eight more runs to the Tigers before the completion of the seven-inning contest.
