How it Happened
- Stephen Devanney threw three perfect innings as the Nittany Lions failed to reach base until the fourth inning. Devanney completed the first inning with just 5 pitches thrown before fanning three batters and forcing three others into groundouts across the 2nd and 3rd innings.
- The Immaculata lineup capitalized as the Nittany Lions' starting pitcher faced control issues. Five Mighty Macs walked in the opening frame, leading to four Immaculata runs. Sal Serici doubled to the gap to drive in the first run, Matt Passerini swiped home on an overthrown ball to the pitcher for run number two, Robert Woodward drew a bases loaded walk to push home the third, and Maddox Stern singled through the left side to cap off an exciting first inning.
- Matt Passerini led off the second inning with a walk as Sal Serici punched his second double of the game to right field. Passerini would cross the plate on a Joey Steff RBI groundout two batters later.
- Trailing 5-0 in the 4th inning, Penn State Abington earned back a run on an RBI groundout. The Mighty Macs matched the Lions' fourth inning figure as Ryan Nace singled and scored from second on a Robert Woodward single up the middle.
- Ryan Nace flashed some leather at third base, digging a ground ball to each side to help the Mighty Macs through the top of the fourth inning. He'd guard the hot corner with a lineout double play to end the top of the fifth. The ball came his way in the sixth, as he'd throw across the diamond for the first and second outs of the inning.
- Will Kelley extended Immaculata's lead in the bottom of the sixth with a 2-run single, bringing Woodward and Veasey across the plate.
- Stephen Devanney continued to deal during the 7th and 8th inning, fanning two Nittany Lions in the seventh and striking out the side in the eighth.
- The Mighty Macs batted around in the bottom of the eighth, as Nick Turnage had a pinch hit RBI before Blake Schantz and Steven Theisen scored on bases-loaded hit-by-pitches that nicked Luke Hardnock and Brayden Meskill.
- Two outs shy of completing the ninth inning, Devanney surrendered a two-run home run before John Fitzpatrick forced a pair of flyouts to close the book on a 12-3 Immaculata win.
