DAVENPORT, Fla.- The Immaculata baseball team fell to the Western New England University Golden Bears 16-6 on Thursday afternoon at the RussMatt Invitational.
Matt Passerini and
Steven Theisen both went 3-4 with extra base hits, as Passerini crossed the plate twice and Theisen had a run and an RBI.
Stephen Devanney debuted on the bump for the Macs, as he'd toss five innings with two earned runs. Defensively, six Immaculata errors led to six unearned runs for the Golden Bears, who maintained the upper hand throughout the contest. With the loss Immaculata reaches double digit losses on the season as Western New England improves to 7-3.
How it Happened
- Western New England brought an unearned run across the plate in the top of the first before Immaculata surrendering a 2 run home run.Â
- The 3-0 Golden Bears' lead held through the second, third, and fourth innings, as Stephen Devanney held Western New England in check. Devanney faced just four batters in inning over that span, forcing the Golden Bears to ground into double plays that closed the top half of the 2nd and 3rd.Â
- Western New England tacked on their fourth run, unearned, in the fifth inning before delivering three runs in the following frame, extending their edge to 8-0.
- The Mighty Macs left two men on base in the third, fourth, and fifth innings before breaking their scoreless spell in the bottom of the sixth. Steven Theisen led off the inning with a double as Ryan Nace and Luke Hardnock found outfield grass to drive in the Mighty Macs first and second runs.
- The Golden Bears used a pair of extra base hits to add two runs in the top of the seventh before the Mighty Macs matched. Matt Passerini singled as Blake Schantz reached base on a hit by pitch. With two on, Theisen doubled to right center, bringing Passerini home. Sal Serici logged an RBI to score Schantz.
- Western New England enjoyed a 6 run eighth inning, lunging ahead 16-4.
- Karl Wissmann delivered two runs on a single up the middle as Matt Passerini and Will Kelley crossed the plate. The game would close with a 16-6 final in favor of the Golden Bears.
