IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata women's basketball team is advancing to the Atlantic East Conference Championship game as the No.1 Seed Mighty Macs defeated No. 5 seed Marywood 69-48 on Wednesday evening at Alumnae Hall. As the AEC Regular Season Champions Immaculata will host the #3 seed Neumann on Saturday, March 1
st at Alumnae Hall at 2:00 p.m. Neumann defeated Marymount 60-57 on the road on Wednesday evening in the other semifinal.
With the win, immaculata improves to 21-3 overall, and they were 10-0 in Atlantic East Conference play in the regular season. The win was Immaculata's 14
th consecutive win. With the loss, Marywood finished their season 13-14 overall, and they were 3-7 in Atlantic East Conference play.
Reese Mullins led all scorers tonight with 16 points, seven rebounds, four assists, a blocked shot, and three steals.
Carly Coleman registered her eighth double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds, with three blocked shots and five steals.
Olivia Ettorre scored 11 points, hitting a couple key three-pointers in the third quarter surge.
Riley Cassidy reached double digits for a second straight game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Reese Mullins drew an early foul and hit a pair of free throws, followed by a jumper to get Immaculata started. Olivia Ettorre hit a jumper and Abigail Boyer hit a three-pointer as Immaculata took a 9-0 lead. Marywood responded by hitting multiple shots, playing a strong defense and took a 18-14 lead late in the first quarter. Reese Mullins hit one free throw late as Marywood led 18-15 after the first quarter.
- Abigail Boyer scored on an early layup, but Marywood hit a three-pointer and built their lead to 23-17 with 7:49 remaining in the quarter. Riley Cassidy hit a three-pointer for Immaculata to cut the led in half. Cassidy would score on a layup. Carly Coleman hit a jumper to tie the score 25-25 with 1:24 remaining in the quarter. Olivia Ettorre hit a three-pointer, and Alyssa Long made a pair of free throws as Immaculata led 30-27 at halftime.
- In the third quarter, Immaculata went to work on their press. Reese Mullins got a steal, and Tessa Liberatoscioli scored on a tip in from a missed shot. Olivia Ettorre hit a three-pointer to extend the Immaculata lead to 38-29 with 7:30 remaining in the quarter. Reese Mullins scored on a put back and drew a foul. She completed the three-point play at the free throw line. Alyssa Long it a three-pointer as Immaculata extended their lead to 48-31. Carly Coleman and Meg Robbins hit jumpers as Immaculata carried a 54-36 lead into the fourth quarter.
- In the fourth quarter, Carly Coleman hit a pair of free throws and a jumper early for Immaculata. Marywood continued pressure Immaculata hitting shots. Reese Mullins went 6-6 at the free throw line for Immaculata in the fourth quarter as the Mighty Macs would go on to close out the win 69-48.
