Women's Lacrosse falls to Bryn Athyn in season-opner

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – On Wednesday evening, the Immaculata University women's lacrosse team dropped their season opener to the Bryn Athyn College Lions. The Mighty Macs netted the first two goals of the match before the Lions responded with a five goal run to flip the script. Immaculata looks ahead to Senior Day which will be held during the program's home opener this Saturday at 1pm.

Scoring
-Ava Hoffman led the Mighty Macs' goalscorers with 3, while Jacki Murray and Kelsey Caldarelli had a pair, and Etoria Sellie scored once in her collegiate debut. 
-Carly Oberg, Ava Hoffman, and Kelsey Caldarelli recorded one helper in the match.

Defensive
-Kelsey Caldarelli earned 3 caused turnovers followed by Carly Oberg's 2. Abigail Guarneri, Bailee Neitz, Ashley Finkbiner, and Ava Hoffman each had one CT.
-Ava Hoffman collected a game-high 6 ground balls as Abigail Guarneri had 5, and Kelsey Caldarelli and Addison Yackel each had 4.

How it Happened
  • The Mighty Macs jumped out to an early 2-0 lead inside the first ten minutes of play. Kelsey Caldarelli netted the opening goal midway through the first quarter, helped by Ava Hoffman, as Hoffman put Immaculata ahead 2-0 with an unassisted tally with 5:24 on the clock.
  • Bryn Athyn scored the games' next five goals, putting Immaculata at a three-goal deficit in the second period. 
  • The Mighty Macs closed the gap before halftime, as Jacki Murray and Ava Hoffman collected unassisted goals. The Macs would trail 4-5 entering the break.
  • In the first two minutes of the second half, Bryn Athyn's found the back of the net three times as the Lions generated an 8-4 advantage.
  • Carly Oberg found Kelsey Calderelli to stop the run, while Ava Hoffman scored a player-up goal five minutes later. 
  • With one minute remaining in the third quarter, Etoria Sellie caught the Lions defense out of position from the right crease on an assist by Kelsey Caldarelli.
  • Immaculata entered the final quarter trailing 7-9.
  • The Lions outscored the Mighty Macs three goals to one in the final frame, with the Macs' last goal supplied by Jacki Murray in the 50th minute.
