IMMACULATA, Pa. – Even though Immaculata women's volleyball fought in every set on Saturday against the Marymount University Saints, the visitors took a 3-0 win.
The Mighty Macs are 10-15 for the season. They are 3-2 in AEC play.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST MARYMOUNT
- Neither team had a true advantage in the opening stages of the match. Despite Immaculata only being down 12-11, a 6-1 Marymount push was enough to separate them by six points. With the Mighty Macs down seven a few rallies later, Emma Hodgson served up two aces to get Immaculata back to a four-point deficit. However, the Saints closed out the set with a 25-19 victory.
- Immaculata did not let Marymount get too far ahead in the second set. Both teams tied at 7-7 on a Hodgson kill. The Saints slowly regained the lead and would eventually be up 21-15. A 6-0 Immaculata outburst, highlighted by three more Hodgson aces, placed the Mighty Macs back on top, 22-21. Marymount, though, scored four of the next five points for a 25-23 win.
- A quick two points from Marymount were countered by four straight from Immaculata. Both teams traded runs, and the Mighty Macs pulled to within three points, 19-16. Despite a good fight from Immaculata, a Saints' kill ended the match with a 25-21 final in set three. Marymount won 3-0.
