ASTON, Pa. – The Immaculata field hockey team fell to Neumann 2-1 in the Atlantic East Semifinals at Neumann on Saturday.
Alexis Andrada scored the goal for Immaculata to tie the score at 1-1 late in the second quarter. Neumann was able to regain the lead in the third quarter and held on for the 2-1 win.
With the result, the Mighty Macs conclude their season 7–13 overall and 2–2 in Atlantic East play, marking their fourth consecutive AEC Semifinal appearance.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST NUEMANN
- Immaculata had the game's first scoring opportunity earning a penalty corner 2:19 into the first quarter, but Alexis Andrada's shot went wide. Andrada had the game's first shot on goal five minutes into the game that was saved.
- Mackenzie Schrack made a pair of saves to keep the game scoreless after one period of play.
- Neumann opened the scoring at 1:11 of the second quarter when Meghan Sheldrick scored off a penalty corner insert to put Neumann up 1-0.
- Immaculata leveled the score at 1-1 at 10:28 of the second quarter when Alexis Andrada scored her 12th goal of the season assisted by Alexa Marczak.
- Neumann regained the lead at 6:27 of the third quarter when Megan Sheldrick scored her second goal of the game to give the Knights a 2-1 lead.
- Immaculata thought they tied the score with 2:25 remaining in the fourth quarter, when Gigi Fox sent a ball into the crease that Maria Berenato tapped into the cage, but the referee called a foul on Immaculata to nullify the goal.
- Neumann held on for the 2-1 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Alexis Andrada scored a career high 12th goal of the season and finishes with a career-high 23 points. Andrada had two shots on goal for Immaculata.
- Alexa Marczak had the assist on Andrada's goal.
- Mackenzie Schrack made three saves in goal.
- Neumann out shot Immaculata 12-3, and 5-2 in shots on goal.
- Penalty corner opportunities were equal with each team having five.
