IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata women's volleyball took the first set against the Marywood University Pacers on Saturday, but the visitors won the match 3-1.
The Mighty Macs are 8-14 for the season. They are 2-1 in AEC play.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST MARYWOOD
- The Mighty Macs started hot with a 3-0 lead. Despite the visitors staying close behind, Immaculata used a 7-0 explosion to go up 14-4. During that run, Lauren Gartman had three aces. Marywood would attempt a comeback, but an Emma Hodgson kill eliminated that possibility. The Mighty Macs won 25-22.
- Similar to the first set, Immaculata set the tone early in the second by earning the initial five points. Although the Mighty Macs held an 8-2 advantage, the Pacers went on a monster 14-1 outburst to lead by seven. Even though Immaculata scored five of six points in a stretch to cut the visitors' lead to five, Marywood responded by taking the set 25-17.
- The third set was contested in the initial stages. The Pacers slowly pulled away with the lead later, despite the Mighty Macs refusing to give up. Three of the last four points went to Marywood, and they took set three 25-17.
- With the Pacers leading set four 8-6, a 6-1 run by Immaculata, with kills by Damani Myers and Mia Esposito, swung the lead back to the Mighty Macs. Each team went on a 4-0 push before a 7-0 outburst gave the Pacers the lead for good. The Mighty Macs nearly forced a set "overtime" at 24-24, but Marywood won the set 25-22, and the match 3-1.
