GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – Although Immaculata women's soccer was heading for a scoreless tie against the Gwynedd Mercy University Griffins on Saturday, the Griffins snuck in a late goal to take a 1-0 victory.
The Mighty Macs are 4-9-1 for the season. They are 3-3 in AEC play.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST GWYNEDD MERCY
- The Mighty Macs' offense started the match firing away. Gabby Palladino had two consecutive shots blocked, and a Maria Granitto shot was saved. The half was highlighted by strong defense on both sides. It was a scoreless draw after 45 minutes.
- Neither side allowed a shot to get past them early in the second half. Emily Guthier recorded multiple saves. However, in the 80th minute, Gwynedd Mercy nailed the game-winner on a rebound shot. Guthier had made a save just seconds prior. Addison Yackel launched a shot with six seconds remaining on the clock, but it was saved. The Griffins won 1-0.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Palladino was the team leader with four shots attempts.
- Immaculata and Gwynedd Mercy were tied in shot attempts (15) and shots on goal (6).
- Guthier made five saves, going the full 90 minutes in net.
