CHESTER, Pa. – Despite a thrilling first set on the road versus the Widener University Pride, Immaculata women's volleyball fell in a sweep on Wednesday.
The Mighty Macs are 3-9 for the season. Their first AEC game will be on Saturday, Oct. 11 versus Saint Elizabeth.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST WIDENER
- The first point of the night for either side was an Angelica Santini Bulerin ace. Neither team could gain an edge, showcasing a tight battle. Down 24-22, the Mighty Macs rallied three straight points. This forced a Pride timeout and a set "overtime." A 4-1 Widener run finished the set, as the home team won 28-26.
- A quick 4-0 Widener run was countered with five straight from Immaculata. Although the Mighty Macs saw kills from a variety of players, Widener's 6-0 outburst in the middle of the set distanced them. The Pride took a 25-14 victory.
- Contrary to the second set, the Mighty Macs initiated the scoring in the third. Santini Bulerin assisted on a Mia Esposito kill, and she also recorded an ace. A 4-1 push got the Mighty Macs within a point of Widener, 10-9. However, the Pride utilized Immaculata errors and grabbed the third set 25-15. Widener won 3-0.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Esposito had a team-best 11 kills.
- Santini Bulerin was the primary setter with 12 assists.
- Antonia Antolini was solid on defense with one solo block and three assisted blocks.
UP NEXT
The Mighty Macs go to Reading, Pa. for a tri-match on Saturday, Oct. 4. They will face the Rutgers University-Camden Scarlet Raptors at 1 p.m. and the host, the Alvernia University Golden Wolves, at 3 p.m.
