Golden Wolves Blank Mighty Macs

READING, Pa.- The Immaculata field hockey team (4-5) fell on the road to Alvernia 4-0 in Tuesday night's non-conference matchup. The Golden Wolves registered goals in the first three periods while allowing just three shots during the bookend quarters of their four goal win over the Mighty Macs.

How it Happened
  • Immaculata made their way upfield early, collecting a penalty corner two minutes in. It led to a shot for Alexis Andrada that was saved by opposing goalkeeper Lexi Boettcher.
  • Alvernia created a series of offensive sets with three early penalty corners, each stopped by Immaculata.
  • The Golden Wolves got on the board in the sixth minute. On the play, Julia Levase made a save at knee height and pursued the rebound. Alvernia's Ava Nealy was able to slip the ball back inside for Ava Michael to deliver the opening goal.
  • Maria Berenato drew a foul to set up the Mac's second penalty corner. Alexis Andrada created a shot off of it, but her try was denied by Wolves' defender Gianna DeGregory before reaching goal.
  • Early in the second frame, Alvernia notched their second score off a penalty corner. The Golden Wolves sent a pair of swift passes on the near side that opened up a shot for Hailey Miller.
  • Approaching the twenty minute mark, Julia Levase and Kaitlin Gale made a save and a defensive save to keep the 2-0 score in check.
  • A pair of Alvernia shots missed wide before Levase recorded her fifth save a minute shy of halftime.
  • After the break, Julia Levase made a pair of foot saves to halt a penalty corner try.
  • Ninety seconds later, Ana Jones received an entry pass of the next corner, as she gave Kathryn Palmer enough space for a two touch shot for the Golden Wolves' third goal.
  • Six minutes and four Alvernia corners later, the home team generated their fourth goal, as Kathryn Palmer found the back of the cage again.
  • The Golden Wolves continued to pressure the Mighty Macs, but five penalty corners led to just one shot for Alvernia, as Ashley Finkbiner denied the attempt.
  • Abby Fekete and Madalyn Bonner played up the left sideline to Alexis Andrada for a late shot attempt that ultimately fell wide.
