IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata men's soccer team (0-1, 0-0 AEC) fell 2-1 to the Aggies of Delaware Valley University in their season opener that doubled as the team's home opener at Draper Walsh Stadium.
How it Happened
- In Friday's friction-filled contest, two yellow cards were issued within the first ten minutes of play. The contest would remain tense throughout the night, with three additional yellows assessed across the final fifteen minutes.
- DelVal got on the board first, as Prince Mushiga delivered a right-footed shot past Immaculata, assisted by Roy Hevener. The Aggies' opening goal goal broke the scoreless draw that lasted 22 minutes.Â
- Immaculata would enter halftime trailing Delaware Valley 1-0.
- The Mighty Macs capitalized on a fortunate bounce to knot the game 1-1 via an own goal in the 49th minute. On the play, Matthew Kirkpatrick fielded a cross from the right sideline, promptly heading it ahead to Jaden Jones. Jones slid forward, but his mark redirected the pass into the back of the Aggies' net.
- Delaware Valley reclaimed the lead in the 66th minute, as Andrew Grunwald found Roy Hevener for the eventual game-winner.
- The Aggies fended the Mighty Macs late chances, including 5 second half shots. Dylan Walater worked for two shots inside a five minute window, but resulted only in corners. Reed Lindsay's 77th minute strike just missed the goal wide left. In the 83rd minute, Daniel O'Rourke sent a shot toward goal that landed just above the crossbar.Â
- DelVal held on to maintain their 2-1 advantage and earn the 2-1 road victory.
