Mighty Macs Earn Split with Delaware Valley

IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata University softball team (12-20, 2-8 Atlantic East) earned a split in their final home doubleheader of the season vs Delaware Valley University. Immaculata fell in in game one 8-5, before coming from behind to win game two 3-2.

Game One: Delaware Valley 8, IMMACULATA 5

Delaware Valley opened the scoring in game one, scoring three times in the top of the first inning to take the early 3-0 lead. Delaware Valley added on to their lead with three additional runs in the top of the second inning, and a pair of runs in the fourth inning.

Immaculata would get on the board in the fifth inning when Kristin Carter singled to right field and advanced to second base on an error by the right fielder that allowed Payton McGowan and Allison Hill to score to cut the Delaware Valley lead to 8-2.
In the bottom of the seventh, Carlee Karcher singled to leftfield advanced to third base on a two-base error on the by the left fielder. Allison Hill reached on an error to score Karcher. Kristin Carter doubled to right center to score Steph Kelly who pinch ran for Allison Hill cut the Del Val lead to 8-4. After an infield single by Bryele Anthony, Kaitlyn Carter singled to left field to score Kristin Carter to bring Immaculata within three at 8-5. Delaware Valley held on to take game one 8-5.

Emma Mercadante took the loss falling to 4-8 on the season. Riece Onorato pitched four innings in relief allowing only two hits, two unearned runs and struck out three.

Game Two: IMMACULATA 3, Delaware Valley 2

In game two, both teams went scoreless in the first inning.

Delaware Valley jumped out to 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning on a solo home run, and an RBI single. Starter Courtney Gable was able end the threat and keep the Aggies at bay through the fifth inning.

In the bottom of the fifth, Steph Kelly singled with one out and advanced to second base on a ground out by Bryele Anthony. Isabella Pastella then drew a walk to give Immaculata runners on first and second with two outs. Carlee Karcher then lined a hard single to right field that got through the right fielder and got all the way to the wall allowing Steph Kelly and Isabella Pastella to score. Karcher advanced to third on a single and two-base error, picking up one RBI on the play as the Mighty Macs tied the score at 2-2. Peyton McGowan followed with an RBI single to left to put the Mighty Macs ahead to stay 3-2.

Courtney Gable set Delaware Valley down in order in the top of the sixth. In the seventh, Delaware Valley got runners on second and third with two outs, when Gable struck out the Del Val hitter looking to close out the 3-2 win. Gable earned the complete game win, raising her record on the season to 4-6 allowing only two earned runs, and struck out two.

Carlee Karcher, and Peyton McGowan led the Mighty Macs offensively in the win each going 2-for-3 with an RBI.

The Immaculata University softball team will be back in action on Saturday, April 27th when they travel to Gwynedd Mercy for their final Atlantic East Conference doubleheader on the season at 12:00 PM. Immaculata needs to win, and needs Neumann to lose to Cabrini to earn the final Atlantic East Conference playoff spot.
