Softball Falls in Doubleheader at Alvernia

READING, Pa.- The Immaculata University softball team was back in action on Tuesday when they travelled to Reading to take on Alvernia University. Immaculata dropped both games losing the first game 12-1, and the second game 10-0.

Game One: Alvernia 12, IMMACULATA 1 (5 Innings)

In the top of the first inning, Bryele Anthony and Kaitlyn Carter singled to start the game, but Immaculata was unable to score as Alvernia turned a double play, got the final out on a flyout.

Alvernia jumped out to a quick lead in the bottom of the first inning, scoring five runs on six hits to lead 5-0 after the first. Alvernia would add on two runs in the bottom of the second inning, and five more runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 12-0 lead.

Immaculata got on the board in the top of the fifth inning, when Jess Oldham singled to left field to score Steph Kelly.

Bryele Anthony and Emma Pinto each had two hits on the day for Immaculata.

Alvernia would go on to close out the inning and take the game 12-1.

Nadia Bhuiyan took the loss on the mound, to fall to 2-3 on the season.

Game Two: Alvernia 10, IMMACULATA 0 (5 Innings)

In the second game, Alvernia scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first on a two-run triple to center field. Alvernia would add on four runs in the bottom of the second inning, and four more in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 10-0 lead.
Alvernia would close out the 10-0 win in five innings.

Rylee Martin, Peyton McGowan, Emma Murphy, and Steph Kelly all had hits for Immaculata.

Reice Onorato fell to 1-2 taking the loss on the mound.

The Immaculata University softball team (10-16, 2-8 Atlantic East), will be back in action on Thursday, when the visit Penn State-Brandywine for a doubleheader at 5:00 PM & 7:00 PM at the Maple Zone Sports Village in Upper Chichester, Pa.
