Martin Calls Game as Macs Come From Behind to Beat Haverford 8-7

IMMACULATA, Pa.- Sophomore Rylee Martin hit a two-run walk off home run to center field to give Immaculata an 8-7 come from behind win over Haverford College in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader.

Haverford opened the scoring in the top of the third inning on sacrifice fly to center field, and moved another runner advanced to third. Immaculata pitcher Nadia Bhuiyan fielded a ground ball and threw the runner out at first to end the inning.

Immaculata would get on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning, when Kaitlyn Carter singled to right field to score Emma Pinto who pinch ran for Emma Murphy to tie the score at 1-1.

Haverford would regain the lead in the top of the fifth inning when Mia Kessinger hit a grand slam to left field to take a 5-1 lead. Haverford would extend their lead to 6-1 with an unearned run with two outs.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Rylee Martin led off with a walk. Carlee Karcher hit a single to right field to give Immaculata runners on first and second. Both runners then advanced on a wild pitch. Allison Hill followed with a walk to load the bases. Emma Murphy grounded out to second scoring Rylee Martin. Bryele Anthony reached on a fielder's choice that scored Carlee Karcher. Kaitlyn Carter then reached on an error by the third base to score Kristen Carter to cut the Haverford lead to 6-4.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Peyton McGowan led off with a single to center field. She advanced to second on a wild pitch. McGowan scored on a single to center field by Rylee Martin to pull Immaculata within one at 6-5. Immaculata was unable to do any additional damage in the sixth.

In the top of the seventh inning, Haverford would tack on an insurance run scoring an un-earned run to take a 7-5 lead into the bottom of the seventh.

After the first two Immaculata hitters were retired on fly outs in the bottom of the seventh, Jess Oldham crushed a long home run to left field to pull Immaculata with in one run at 7-6. Peyton McGowan followed with a single to center field to bring the potential game-winning run to the plate. Rylee Martin stepped to the plate and called game hitting a walk-off home run to center field to give Immaculata an 8-7 come-from-behind win.

Rylee Martin led Immaculata on the day going 2-for-3 with two runs scored, a single, a home run, and three RBIs.

Emma Mercadante (2-3) earned the win going 2.2 innings in relief.

The Immaculata University softball team (7-6, 1-1 Atlantic East) will be back in action on Thursday, March 21st when they host Rosemont College at the IU Softball Field for a doubleheader starting at 3:00 PM.
