Macs Earn Split in AEC Opener with Saints

IMMACULATA,Pa.- The Immaculata softball team opened up Atlantic East Conference play with a double header split with Marymount this afternoon.
 
 
GAME ONE: Immaculata:7 Marymount:9
 
The Saints got on the board first in the top of the second, jumping out to a 2-0 lead. Immaculata got one back in the 3rd with a Jess Oldham sacrifice fly to score Bryele Anthony. The Mighty Macs took the lead in the fourth with Kristin Carter driving in a run and Bryele Anthony driving in another. Emma Pinto drove in a run in the 5th to make it a 4-2 game.
 
Marymount would tie things up with a pair of doubles in the top half of the 6th. In the bottom half of the frame, Carlee Karcher would draw a bases loaded walk to regain the lead. Allison Hill would then drive in two runs on an infield single to make it 7-4 heading into the top of the 7th.
 
The Saints would use the long ball to put up a five spot and take the lead for good in the top of the 7th inning.
 
 
 
GAME TWO: Immaculata:4 Marymount:2
 
In a game that took just over an hour in total dominated by pitching, it was the Mighty Macs who would prevail in part to a Rylee Martin three-run shot over the left center field wall in the bottom of the 6th, to flip the score from the Mighty Macs trailing 2-1, to leading 4-2.
 
Immaculata jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom half of the first on a Jess Oldham sacrifice fly to score Bryele Anthony. It would be a pitcher's duel for the next four innings, until the Saints got on the board by way of a two-run homer in the top of the 6th. Martin would respond with the three-run blast giving the Macs the lead back for good.
 
Courtney Gable picked up the win in the circle, throwing a complete game which saw her keeping hitters off balance, allowing two earned runs on five hits throughout.
 
 
The Immaculata softball team is back in action at the Immaculata Softball Field on Tuesday, March 19th when they take on Haverford College in a 3:00 PM double header.
