IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata University men's lacrosse team was back on the turf as they hosted Penn College at Draper Walsh Stadium. Immaculata earned their second win of the week defeating Penn College 11-9.
Immaculata was led offensively by
David Azzarano who had three goals and two assists, and
Bailey Manion who had two goals and three assists.
Nicholas DeFilippo had one goal and three assists,
Joseph Biuso had one goal and one assist,
Connor Teears had two goals, and
Ben Wesolowski, and
Matthew Frame each had one goal.
Defensively, Immaculata was led by
Daniel Alvarez who had six ground balls, and two caused turnovers.
Matthew Ludlow was strong in goal with 15 saves and three ground balls.
In the first quarter, Immaculata opened the scoring with
Nicholas DeFilippo scoring on an assist from
David Azzarano with 11:44 remaining. Ben Weslowski scored with 9:04 remaining on an assist from
Nicholas DeFilippo.
Connor Teears scored on an assist from
Bailey Manion with 4:10 remaining as Immaculata led 3-2 after the first quarter.
In the second quarter,
Connor Teears scored with 14:18 remaining.
Matthew Frame scored on an assist from
Nicholas DeFilippo to put Immaculata up 5-3 with 10:49 remaining.
David Azzarano extended the lead to 6-3 less than a minute later.
Bailey Manion put Immaculata up 7-3 with a goal with 8:40 remaining in the quarter. Penn College would score three quick goals to cut Immaculata's lead to 7-6.
David Azzarano would score on an assist from
Bailey Manion with 1:50 remaining as Immaculata led 8-6 at the half.
In the third quarter, Penn College scored twice to tie the game at 8-8 with 12:34 remaining in the third quarter. Immaculata responded with three consecutive goals with
Bailey Manion restoring the Immaculata lead on an assist from
David Azzarano.
Joseph Biuso scored on an assist from
Nicholas DeFilippo.
David Azzarano scored on an assist from
Bailey Manion with 4:59 remaining in the third quarter. Immaculata would take an 11-8 lead into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter, neither team could find the back of the net, until Penn College scored with 7:09 remaining to cut Immaculata's lead to 11-9. Immaculata goalkeeper
Matthew Ludlow and the Immaculata defense managed to hold off Penn College, including killing off a two-man disadvantage in final minute of the game to earn the 11-9 win.
