Baseball Splits Season Opener with Rutgers Camden

CAMDEN,NJ.- The Immaculata baseball team opened their 2024 season with a double header at Rutgers Camden this afternoon. Rutgers Camden took game one by the score of 4-1. Immaculata answered the call with a 4-0 victory in game two.
 
GAME ONE: Immaculata: 1 Rutgers Camden: 4 (7)
 
Immaculata dropped the first game of the double header, Joey Sacco led off the game with a single, but the Mighty Macs could not manufacture a run out of it. Newcomer Shawn Haut had a magnificent debut in an Immaculata uniform, going 3-3 at the plate with a double and a run scored. Freshman Sal Serici picked up his first career hit and drove in the sole run for Immaculata. Blake Schantz and Ryan Struble each went 1-1 at the plate. Jason Hughes struck out two in four innings of work, surrendering three hits and one run.
 
 
GAME TWO: Immaculata: 4  Rutgers Camden: 0 (7)
 
Stephen Dibattista would dominate on the mound in his four innings of work, allowing one hit throughout. A Robert Woodward fifth inning double would bring a spark to the Mighty Macs offense, Sal Serici would do a great job advancing Woodward to third, who would score on a passed ball to give the Macs a 1-0 lead. After Josh Crowding was intentionally walked, Steven Theisen would reach on an infield single to load the bases. Matt Passerini would drive in a run via a HBP. Shawn Haut would continue his scorching start as a Mighty Mac, driving in two runs to break the game open and give Immaculata a 4-0 lead. In his Immaculata debut on the mound, Alex LePage picked up the save throwing 3.0 innings of shutout baseball surrendering one hit while striking out two.
 
 
The Immaculata baseball team is back in action on Tuesday, February 27th when they host Delaware Valley at the Immaculata Baseball Stadium with first pitch at 3:00 PM.
