FREDERICK, Md. – The Immaculata University Men's Volleyball team traveled to Hood College for a tri-match on Saturday. The Mighty Macs fell to Hood College 3-2 before falling to Thiel College 3-0 in their second match.
In their first match with Hood, Immaculata was led by
Josh McGurl with 15 kills, eight digs, and three blocks.
Jack Debes had 10 kills, six blocks, and seven digs. Joe Martel had four kills, distributed 38 assists, had one service ace, six blocks, and 12 digs.
Michael Prall had seven kills, and nine digs.
Matthew Pfister had a team high 27 digs for the Mighty Macs.
In the first set,
Josh McGurl had a kill that put Immaculata up 13-11. Hood would use a four-point run to regain the lead 15-13. Hood then used a 7-2 run to take set one 25-20.
In set two Joe Martel served three consecutive points as Immaculata led early 3-0.
Michael Prall served three straight points that included a kill from Joe Martel, and a block from
Josh McGurl as Immaculata led 9-5.
Brandon Fox served four straight points, as Immaculata would go on to take set two 25-22.
In set three, Joe Martel served three straight points to put Immaculata ahead 4-2. With Immaculata trailing 21-20, Immaculata would use a 5-2 run to take set three 25-23.
In set four, the teams exchanged the led.
Brandon Lieberman served consecutive points to pull Immaculata even at 17-17.
Josh McGurl earned a side out on a kill to even the score at 18-18. Hood used a five-point run on their way to evening the match taking the set 25-21 to force a deciding set.
In set five Hood jumped out to an 8-3 lead. Immaculata responded when
Michael Prall served six straight points to put Immaculata ahead 10-8. The run included two kills from
Josh McGurl and one from
Brandon Fox. Hood used a five-point run of their own on their way to taking set five 15-12 and the match 3-2.
In their second match of the day with Thiel, Immaculata was led by
Josh McGurl with five kills, and 10 digs.
Michael Prall with three kills, one service ace, one block, and three digs.
Brandon Lieberman had three kills, and two digs.
Joe Martell distributed 11 assists, with one kill, and four digs.
Matthew Pfister had a team high 12 digs.
In the first set, Thiel jumped out to an early 13-3 lead. Immaculata came back with a four-point run to close the score to 13-7 as
Michael Prall served consecutive points including a service ace. Thiel would finish the set on a 9-2 run winning the set 25-13.
In set two, with the score tied at 3-3, Thiel used a six-point run to take a 9-3 lead. Immaculata would get consecutive points on kills by
Brandon Lieberman and
Josh McGurl to close the score to 11-6. Thiel would earn six out of eight points to take a commanding 18-7 lead. Thiel would win the second set 25-14.
Thiel would go on to close out the win 3-0 taking set three 25-16.
