Starting Unit Shines in 9-point win over Widener

CHESTER, Pa.- The Immaculata women's basketball team improved to 7-2 on the season with a 60-51 victory over Widener University on Saturday afternoon. The Mighty Macs' starters- Abigail Boyer, Reese Mullins, Tessa Liberatoscioli, Olivia Ettorre, and Carly Coleman, accounted for all but two points of Immaculata's offense as the team used a 22-10 fourth quarter to swing the game back in their favor.

How it Happened
  • Widener converted their first three shots of the game to jump to an early lead. The Pride scored off their own misses in on their next two possessions, creating a 10-2 lead off five made layups just three minutes into the game. 
  • The Mighty Macs converted inside looks halted Widener's early run, surrendering just two points the remainder of the opening quarter. Immaculata trailed 12-10 at the end of the first.
  • Three layups and a made three for Widner afforded the home team a 21-12 lead after a hot start to the second quarter.
  • Immaculata closed the gap by period's end, as Abigail Boyer had an scored eight straight of the Mighty Macs' points. 
  • Widener entered the halftime break with a 24-22 edge.
  • The Pride commanded a nine point lead early in the third quarter, later pushing their advantage to double digits with 2:38 left in Q3. 
  • Again, Immaculata used the closing minutes of the third to tighten the scoreboard.
  • Abigail Boyer, Tessa Liberatoscioli, and Olivia Ettorre each had three point plays late in the period, as Boyer and Ettorre made jumpers and Liberatoscioli converted an and-one layup.
  • Immaculata trailed Widener 38-41 entering the final frame.
  • Tessa Liberatoscioli assisted a pair of Abigail Boyer field goals to open the fourth quarter, as Immaculata evened the score 43-43.
  • Driving layups from Tessa and back-to-back makes from Reese Mullins fed a 50-45 score for Immaculata, leading for the first time in the contest.
  • Mullins added a pair of made layups to extend the lead to nine with just under two minutes remaining.
  • The Mighty Macs were sent to the line for their final points of the game, closing the 60-51 road victory over Widener University.

  • Immaculata eclipses a .500 road record (3-2) on the season with today's win. Women's Basketball remain unbeaten at Alumnae Hall, sporting a 4-0 home record.
  • With 13 steals on the afternoon, the Mighty Macs recorded double digit steals for the seventh consecutive contest. They now average 11.7 steals per game, four more than they surrender to their oponents (7.7).
  • The trio of Abigail Boyer, Reese Mullins, and Tessa Liberatoscioli each sank six field goals and two free throws on the afternoon. They'd combine for 47 of the Mighty Macs' 60 points, the second-highest total of any three IUWBB athletes in a game since Mullins, Liberatoscioli, and Carly Coleman combined to score 49 points in Immaculata's win over Haverford on November 13th.
