IMMACULATA, Pa.- Collin Hassay scored in the game's 41
st minute to restore Immaculata's lead as the Mighty Macs defeated Marywood 2-1 at Draper Walsh Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Reed Lindsay had given Immaculata the 1-0 lead in the 12th minute, only to have Marywood equalize in the 37th minute.
With the win, Immaculata secured the third seed in the upcoming Atlantic East Conference Tournament that begins Saturday. By earning the third seed, Immaculata will receive a bye into the Atlantic East Semifinals on Wednesday, November 6
th when they will head to Aston to take on the second seed Neumann.
How it Happened
- Immaculata opened the scoring in the 12th minute when Alex Corsones played the ball ahead to Michael Balestriere. Balestriere played the ball to Reed Lindsay who took it in to score to give Immaculata the 1-0 lead.
- Marywood tied the score at 1-1 in the game's 37th minute as Danny Gomez scored assisted by Alex Visha.
- Immaculata would regain the lead in the 41st minute was as Reed Lindsay served a cross that Matthew Kirkpatrick headed to Collin Hassay who volleyed the ball into the net to give Immaculata a 2-1 going into halftime.
- In the second half, a missed communication inside the box nearly cost Immaculata the lead in the game's 63rd minute. Fortunately for Immaculata Brian Tacuri's shot caught hit the post.
- Ryan Straub made a pair of saves, and the Immaculata defense was able to hold off Marywood to claim the 2-1 win.
Inside the Numbers
- Reed Lindsay led the Immaculata offense with a goal and an assist. Linday has now scored in consecutive games for Immaculata. The goal was his third goal of the season, and this was his fifth assist.
- Collin Hassay scored his first goal of the season. This was Hassay's second career goal, and his first game winning goal.
- Michael Balestriere registered his first assist of the season on Lindsay's goal.
- Matthew Kirkpatrick picked up his team high sixth assist on Hassay's game winning goal.
- Ryan Straub made four saves on 15 shots faced.
- The Immaculata defensive core Dylan Walter, Daniel O'Rourke, Kyle Coleman, and midfielders Alex Corsones, and Sean Franks helped limit Marywood to just five shots on goal and did an excellent job of managing out the game in the second half.
