Men's Volleyball Sweeps Tri-Match with Sarah Lawrence and Bryn Athyn

BRYN ATHYN, Pa.- The Immaculata University men's volleyball team swept their tri-match on Sunday defeating Sarah Lawrence College 3-0, and the host Bryn Athyn College 3-0. With the wins, Immaculata raises their record for the season to 2-1. 

Immaculata 3, Sarah Lawrence 0 

The Mighty Macs' first match of the day was against Sarah Lawrence College. Immaculata took control of the first set when Michael Prall served four consecutive points including a service ace to take an 8-4 lead. Joe Martel would serve a pair of service aces, including the decisive point of the set as Immaculata took the first set 25-8.  

In set two, Jack Debs had consecutive kills to give Immaculata an early 2-0 lead. Michael Prall then served five straight points that included a service ace, and a pair of kills from Josh McGurl as the Mighty Macs took a 12-4 lead. Josh McGurl served the final three points, ending set two with a service ace as Immaculata took a 2-0 lead winning 25-17. 

In set three, Brandon Fox served three consecutive points including a kill from Brand Lieberman as Immaculata went ahead 13-6. Immaculata would close out set three 25-17 to win the match 3-0 for their first win of the season. 

Immaculata was led by Josh McGurl with six kills, two service aces, and nine digs. Brandon Fox had five kills, and Luke Inniss and Brandon Lieberman each had four. Joe Martel had 13 assists, two service aces, and three digs. Matthew Pfister had nine digs, Michael Prall had seven digs, and Ethan Ngo had seven digs.  

Immaculata 3, Bryn Athyn 0 

In their second match of the day, Immaculata took on the host Bryn Athyn College. Jack Debes got a side out on a kill and then served three straight points as Immaculata took the lead 7-5. Immaculata would get kills from Josh McGurl, Jack Debes, and Brandon Fox as they won the first set 25-18. 

In set two, Immaculata trailed 10-7, when Matthew Pfister got a kill to earn a side out. Joe Martel then served three straight points as Immaculata took an 11-10 lead. Ethan Ngo later served five consecutive points that included kills from Jack Debes and Michael Prall and a combined block by them as Immaculata led 17-14. With the score tied at 23-23, Jack Debes served back-to-back service aces as Immaculata took set two 25-23. 

In the third set, Matthew Pfister served five straight points that included a pair of kills from Josh McGurl to take an early 8-1 lead. Josh McGurl had a kill that gave Immaculata a commanding 22-12 lead. Bryn Athyn refused to go quietly, using a six-point run to close the score to 22-18. Christian Lee got a kill, to end the run, and served a point to put Immaculata up 24-18. Bryn Athyn would battle back again to cut the Immaculata lead to 24-22. Immaculata would hold on to take set three 25-22, and the match 3-0. 

Immaculata was led by Josh McGurl with 13 kills, one service ace, and 13 digs. Jack Debes had four kills, two service aces, and two blocks. Matthew Pfister had four kills and eight digs. Joe Martell distributed 26 assists. Michael Prall two service aces, and two blocks. Brandon Lieberman had nine digs, and Brandon Fox added one block.

The Immaculata men's volleyball team will be back on the court on Saturday, January 27th when they host Arcadia University at Alumnae Hall for their home opener at 1:00 PM.
