GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa.- All five starters scored in double figures for the Immaculata as they defeated Gwynedd Mercy on the road in an Atlantic East Conference game 75-72 on Saturday afternoon.
In the first quarter, Immaculata opened the scoring on their first possession with a three-pointer by Abigail Boyer. Gwynedd responded with a three-pointer of their own, then Reese Mullins hit another three-pointer for Immaculata. Morgan Falcone would hit a three-pointer of her own as Immaculata built an early 13-3 lead. Gwynedd Mercy would chip away at the lead and Immaculata would take a 20-15 lead into the second quarter.
Gwynedd would shoot 10-for-14 from the floor in the second quarter and grew a nine-point lead at 41-32 with 1:18 remaining. Abigail Boyer would hit a pair of free throws with 0:02 remaining as the Mighty Macs trailed 43-36 at the half. Abigail Lentowski led Immaculata in scoring with 12 points in the first half of the game.
Immaculata got things going quickly in the third quarter with consecutive layups by Tess Liberatoscioli as they began the quarter on a 12-point run. Morgan Falcone converted a three-point play with 2:59 remaining and followed up with another layup. Tessa Liberatoscioli then got a steal and took it for a layup as Immaculata led 61-51 after three quarters.
Gwynedd Mercy responded in the fourth quarter taking a 68-65 lead with 3:32 remaining. Morgan Falcone got the Immaculata comeback started with a pair of free throws with 3:11 remaining. Tessa Liberatoscioli hit a free throw to tie the score at 68-68. Abigail Lentowski and Abigail Boyer each scored for Immaculata as they took a 72-68 lead. Gwynedd trimmed the lead to 75-72 and had possession with 0:22 remaining. Abigail Boyer drew an offensive foul on Gwynedd Mercy with 0:09 seconds left and hit a free throw to seal the win for the Mighty Macs.
Immaculata was led by senior Morgan Falcone who scored 17 points, with five rebounds, two assists, and three steals. Abigail Lentowski scored 14 points, with seven rebounds, and three steals. Abigail Boyer scored 13 points, six rebounds, and two assists. Reese Mullins scored 13 points, with two assists, two rebounds, and one blocked shot. Tessa Liberatoscioli scored 11 points, with eight rebounds, two blocked shots, and four steals.
