MEDIA, Pa.- The Immaculata women's volleyball team defeated Penn State – Brandywine in four sets (25-21, 21-25, 25-19, 25-19) in a non-conference road match to raise their record to 3-0 on the season.
In the first set the teams exchanged the lead early. Immaculata's Christina Lenzo served three straights points in a four-point run to give the Mighty Macs an 11-5 lead. The Macs would go on to take the first set 25-21.
In set two, Penn State-Brandywine opened a quick 3-0 lead. Immaculata would battle back taking an 18-15 lead as Lily Burnette served four straight points including three service aces. Penn State-Brandywine would use a five-point run of their own to take set two 25-21.
In set three, Immaculata trailed early 6-3, before using a seven-point run to take a 10-6 lead with Emma Hodgson serving six consecutive points during the run. Immaculata would take the third set by a score of 25-19.
Immaculata closed out the match, taking the fourth set by an identical score of 25-19. Lily Burnette closed out the win, serving the final five-points of the match.
Immaculata was led offensively tonight by Calissa Araujo eight kills, Mia Esposito eight kills, and Ava Thorley with seven kills. Lily Burnette had six service aces; Emma Hodgson had five service aces, and Emily Ettien added two service aces. Christina Lenzo distributed 18 assists, and Emily Ettien registered 11 assists.
On the defensive side, Immaculata was led by Lily Burnette with 30 digs, Ava Thorley with 18 digs and Karissa Herman with 12 digs. Ava Thorley, Calissa Araujo, and Emma Hodgson each had three blocks.
The Immaculata women's volleyball team will be back in action on Saturday, September 9th when they travel to Reading for a tri-match with Albright and Clarks Summit. Immaculata will play Albright at 11:00 AM and Clarks Summit at 1:00 PM.
