COLLEGEVILLE, Pa.- The Immaculata men's soccer team fell in their road match at Ursinus 5-2 on Wednesday evening. This was the final game of their three-game road trip to open their season.
In the first half of play, Ursinus came out quickly putting pressure on the Mighty Macs in their own end. Ursinus would open the scoring in the 11th minute, taking a 1-0 lead. Ursinus would double their lead to 2-0 in the 15th minute knocking in a rebound after consecutive in close saves by Mighty Mac goalkeeper Ryan Straub.
Ursinus would add a third goal in the twenty-seventh minute to take a 3-0 lead that they would carry into the halftime break. Ursinus registered 13 shots on goal in the first half, and Immaculata goalkeeper Ryan Straub made 10 first-half saves.
In the second half, Ursinus would add goals in the 65th and the 74th minutes to take a 5-0 lead. Immaculata refused to quietly in the later portion of the second half.
In the 79th minute, Reed Lindsay was fouled by the Ursinus goalkeeper while attempting to shoot, drawing the penalty kick. Reed Lindsay buried the penalty kick to close the score to 5-1.
In the 87th minute, Michael Balestriere got the ball around midfield and took it down the right sideline with speed. The ball found its way to freshman Matthew Skipper Jr at the edge of the penalty area, he took a touch to open it up for himself and slid the ball past the Ursinus keeper for his first goal as a Mighty Mac to make the score 5-2. Balestriere and Jonathan Olaleye picked up assists on the goal.
Ryan Straub finished the game with 11 saves for the Mighty Macs.
The Immaculata men's soccer team (0-1-2) will be back in action on Saturday, September 9th when they host Randloph-Macon College at Draper Walsh Stadium at 2:00 PM for their home opener.
