IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata women's soccer team earned their first win of the season in this afternoon's non-conference matchup against Rosemont winning 2-1.
Sophomore midfielder
Kelsey Caldarelli opened the scoring in the sixth minute of play on an assist from
Rachel McNamee to give the Mighty Macs and early 1-0 lead. Immaculata would continue to apply pressure on Rosemont with a 7-2 edge in shots and 4-2 edge in shots on goal as the Macs took a 1-0 into the halftime break.
In the second half, the Mighty Macs would extend their lead to 2-0 in the 60
th minute when
Rachel McNamee scored on assists from
Kelsey Caldarelli and
Savanna Crowding.
Rosemont would not go quietly, as they pulled back with in one goal scoring in the 78
th minute to cut Immaculata's lead to 2-1.
The Mighty Macs where able to manage the rest of the game and hold off Rosemont to earn the 2-1 victory. The Macs outshot the Ravens 16-9, and 12-5 in shots on goal over the full match. The Macs also led Rosemont in corner kicks 6-3.
Immaculata was led offensively by
Kelsey Caldarelli and
Rachel McNamee with each scoring one goal and adding one assist. Caldarelli and McNamee each registered three shots on goal.
Savanna Crowding added one assist.
Hannah Phillips and
Mia Perrone each had two shots on goal.
Bella Bonilla and
Nicole Winouski each had one shot on goal.
On the defensive side goalkeeper
Gina Marinelli led the way for the Mighty Macs with four saves. The Mighty Macs defensive core of
Bella Bonilla,
Janelle Kern,
Maria Granitto,
Samantha Seidito, and
Jules Carter did a good job limiting Rosemont's opportunities.
The Immaculata women's soccer team will be back in action on Wednesday, September 20
th when they travel to play at Penn State-Abington in a non-conference match at 4:00 PM.
