IMMACULATA,Pa.- The Immaculata baseball team opened up the Atlantic East Conference tournament with a 15-1 victory over Neumann University.
Jason Hughes picked up his ninth win of the season, going six innings of no-hit baseball while racking up eight strikeouts.
Ryan Struble got the scoring started in the bottom of the first inning, with a two-run single to bring home
Josh Crowding and
Joey Sacco. The Macs would add one more in the 3
rd from a
Steven Theisen RBI single.
The Mighty Macs used a six run 5
th inning to pull ahead for good. With Theisen,
Justin Klemick,
Jay Lawrence,
Maddox Stern and
Josh Crowding all drove in runs in the inning. Struble would score in the 6
th inning on a wild pitch to extend the lead to 10-0.
Neumann would add one run back in the top half of the seventh inning.
In the eighth inning,
Robert Woodward came off the bench as a pinch hitter and drove the first pitch he saw off the fence in left field for an RBI double to bring in Struble. Shortly after,
Josh Crowding hit a moon shot to left field for a grand slam, to extend the Mighty Mac lead to 15-1.
As a team, Immaculata tallied 19 hits on the afternoon, with seven going for extra bases.
The Immaculata baseball team will be back in action on Friday, May 12
th for a 12:15 start time at the Immaculata Baseball Stadium in the winners bracket game of the AEC Tournament, where they face off against #2 Cabrini.
