CHESTER, Pa.- The Immaculata softball team was back in action on Monday as they visited Widner University. Immaculata earned a split in the doubleheader taking game one 9-3, before falling in game two 11-1.
Game One: Immaculata 9, Widener 3
Immaculata would open the scoring in the top of the first inning as Lauren Carboni doubled to left field scoring Bryele Anthony to give the Macs a 1-0 lead.
Widener would come back to even the game in the bottom of the first inning with a run of their own.
Immaculata would regain their lead in the top of the second inning when Bryele Anthony picked up a pair of RBIs scoring Alyssa Daly and Kaitlin Carter as the Macs took a 3-1 lead.
In the top of the fifth inning, Immaculata broke the game open with five runs. Sara Rode drew a bases-loaded walk to score Emma Pinto. Lauren Carboni singled to centerfield scoring Bryele Anthony and Carly Grandizio. Peyton McGowan reached on an error by the left fielder scoring Sara Rode and Lauren Carboni as Immaculata took an 8-2 lead.
Immaculata would add on an additional run in the sixth and held on to take game one 9-3.
Lauren Carboni led the Macs offensively going 4-for-4 with a double and 4 RBIs. Bryele Anthony, Sara Rode, and Peyton McGowan each had two RBIs. Reice Onorato raised her record on the season to 1-2, with the completed game victory allowing four hits, two earned runs, and a career-high 11 strike outs.
Game Two: Widener 11, Immaculata 1
In game two, Widener got on the board in the bottom of the first inning. The Pride would score three times to take an early 3-0 lead.
Widener would add on to their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring a pair of runs to increase their lead to 5-0.
Immaculata would score their lone run in the top of the sixth inning when Bryele Anthony scored when Lauren Carboni grounded out to the pitcher.
Widener would close out the game in the bottom of the sixth inning scoring five runs, including a grand slam to take game two 11-1.
Courtney Gable took the loss on the mound falling to 4-5 on the season.
With a stolen base in the sixth inning, Bryele Anthony set a new Immaculata softball program record for stolen bases in a single season with her 24th stolen base of the season.
