Macs Outpace the Pacers En Route to Sweep

SCRANTON,Pa.- The Immaculata baseball  team swept their Atlantic East Conference series with Marywood University, taking both games of the double header this afternoon. Winning game one 5-0 and game two 14-2.
 
Game One : Immaculata 5 Marywood 0
 
Jason Hughes was excellent on the mound in game one, fanning 11 in six innings of work. With his 11 strikeouts, he has set a new single season program record for strikeouts in a season, sitting at 74 on the year, with the previous record being 73.
 
At the plate, Jay Lawrence would drive in three runs, two of which coming on a 2nd inning double down the left field line to get the scoring started. Joey Wright would send a solo home run deep into the trees in left field. Joey Sacco also drove a run in with a seventh inning walk.
 
Wright, as well as Josh Crowding would each go 3-4 at the plate in game one.
 
 
 
Game Two: Immaculata 14  Marywood 2
 
The Mighty Macs offense came out hot, scoring four runs in the top half of the first inning via Steven Theisen and Justin Klemick each providing two run singles in the frame. Theisen would deliver another RBI in the 2nd, bringing in Joey Wright.
 
The Macs would extend their lead to 8-1 in the 3rd inning via RBI doubles from Lawrence and Wright as well as an RBI single from Maddox Stern. A 3 run seventh inning put the final nail in the coffin for game two, with Blake Schantz and Josh Crowding driving in runs.
 
Theisen would tack on one more RBI in the ninth to give himself a game high four runs batted in. Theisen (3-6) and Klemick (3-5) as well as Lawrence (2-3) and Wright (2-4) would headline the Macs offense.
 
With his 9th inning two run double, freshman infielder Blaine McDade picked up his first career hit as a Mighty Mac.
 
On the mound, senior south paw Stephen DiBatista would provide the Macs with seven strong innings to pick up his 5th win of the year. Striking out the Pacers nine times throughout the afternoon. Matthew Long and Luis Flores would throw two scoreless innings of relief, combining for four more punchouts.
 
The Immaculata baseball team is back in action on Tuesday, April 25th  when they host Rowan University for a 3:30 PM match up at the Immaculata Baseball Stadium.
