ARLINGTON, Va.- The Immaculata women's tennis team dropped their Atlantic East Conference Championship match on Friday afternoon 5-4 against Marywood University. The Mighty Macs remain the only team in Atlantic East Conference history to have appeared in every woman's tennis championship match.
In doubles action.
Annamarie Degnan and
Pamela Kontaras won the first doubles match 8-3. This was Degnan and Kontaras sixth consecutive doubles win.
Delaney Brown and
Katie Gardner lost the second doubles match 8-3, and
Sydney Mehaffey and
Audrey Keen lost the third doubles match 8-1.
In singles action.
Annamarie Degnan lost the first singles match to the conference tournament MVP Caroline Haymans by a score of 4-6, 3-6.
Pamela Kontaras won her ninth consecutive singles match, taking the second singles match 6-0, 6-1.
Delaney Brown won the third singles match 6-3, 6-0.
Katie Gardner lost the fourth singles match 0-6, 1-6.
Sydney Mehaffey lost the fifth singles match 3-6, 1-6.
Audrey Keen won the sixth singles match 3-6, 3-6.
Following the conclusion of the match, the Atlantic East Conference honored Immaculata sophomore
Pamela Kontaras as the women's tennis recipient of the Elite 20 Award. The Elite 20 Award is presented to the student athlete with the highest cumulative GPA competing at the finals site of each of the Atlantic East Confernece's 20 team championships.
The Immaculata women's tennis team concludes their season with an overall record of 7-12, while posting a record of 4-2 in Atlantic East Conference play.     Â
