IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata softball team was back in action on Thursday afternoon, when they hosted Rutgers-Newark. Immaculata would sweep the doubleheader taking game on 8-7, before winning game two by a score of 14-6.
Game One: Immaculata 8 Rutgers-Newark 7
Rutgers-Newark would open the scoring the first inning with a pair of runs to take an early 2-0 lead. Immaculata would get on the board in the bottom of second inning when
Emma Murphy doubled to right center to score
Rylee Martin to cut the lead to 2-1.
In the bottom of the fourth inning,
Bryele Anthony reached on a fielder's choice that score
Kaitlyn Carter from third to tie the score.
Sara Rode singled to centerfield to score
Emma Pinto to give the Mighty Macs their first lead 3-2.
Rutgers-Newark would score two runs in the fifth inning to retake the lead 5-3.
The Mighty Macs would respond in the bottom half of the fifth inning.
Kaitlyn Carter singled to left field to score
Peyton McGowan.
Bryele Anthony to score
Rylee Martin.
Sara Rode followed with a single to left to score
Bryele Anthony, Kristen Carter, and
Kaitlyn Carter as Immaculata took an 8-5.
Rutgers-Newark would score a pair of runs in the top of the seventh to pull within a run. Left fielder
Peyton McGowan made diving catch in left field, and then doubled off the runner at third base to close out the 8-7 win for Immaculata.
Sara Rode led Immaculata offensively going 2-for-3 with four RBIs.
Bryele Anthony had 2 RBIs, and
Kaitlyn Carter and
Emma Murphy each had one RBI.
Courtney Gable earned the win in relief to raise her record to 4-3 on the season pitching the final three innings striking out two.
Game Two: Immaculata 14 Rutgers-Newark 6 (6 innings)
Rutgers-Newark would open the scoring in the first inning again in game two with a two run double to take a 2-0 lead.
Immaculata would respond with a pair of runs in their half of the first, when
Bryele Anthony scored on a wild pitch.
Lauren Carboni reached on a fielder's choice that scored
Carlee Karcher to even the score at 2-2.
The Mighty Macs would take the lead in the bottom third.
Morgan Sakulich led off with a double to left field.
Peyton McGowan would follow with a two-run home run to left.
Lauren Carboni followed with a solo home run to left. With the back-to-back home runs the Macs went up 5-2.
Immaculata would add on to their lead in the fourth inning when
Rylee Martin singled to right field that scored
Morgan Sakulich and
Allison Hill as the Macs extended their lead to 7-2.
Rutgers-Newark would get two runs back in the top of the fifth inning with a home run to left field to cut Immaculata's lead to 7-4.
Immaculata would respond in the bottom of the fifth with three additional runs.
Bryele Anthony stole home on the back end of a double steal with
Sara Rode.
Morgan Sakulich hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield that scored
Sara Rode, and
Rylee Martin single to center to score
Allison Hill as the Mighty Macs lead 10-4.
Rutgers-Newark scored two runs in the top of the sixth to close the Immaculata's lead to 10-6.
Immaculata would close out the win in the bottom of the sixth when
Sara Rode reached on a fielder's choice that scored
Bryele Anthony.
Peyton McGowan singled to center to score
Sara Rode, and
Rylee Martin ended the game with two run single to centerfield that scored
Morgan Sakulich and
Allison Hill as the Macs won the game 14-6 by the run ahead rule.
Rylee Martin led the Mighty Macs offensively going 3-for-4 with five RBI's.
Peyton McGowan went 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBI's.
Lauren Carboni hit a home run and drove in two RBIs, and
Sara Rode and
Morgan Sakulich each had an RBI. Ten different Mighty Macs hitters had at least one hit, and they team had 19 hits for the game.
Sarah Guido got the win in relief to raise her record to 3-4 on the season, pitching two innings and striking out two.
