Immaculata Softball Falls to Blackburn

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.- The Immaculata softball team dropped their game on Wednesday night to Blackburn College 13-9.

Immaculata got off to a quick start in the top of the first inning when Lauren Carboni singled to centerfield scoring Bryele Anthony and Kaitlyn Carter to put the Macs up 2-0. Elena Anglani singled home Lauren Carboni, and Riece Onorato later scored on a wild pitch as Immaculata led 4-0.

Immaculata would add a run in the top of the 2nd inning when Rylee Martin tripled to centerfield scoring Bryele Anthony. Immaculata would add two more runs in the top of the third inning when Elena Anglani scored on a throwing error by the catcher, and Steph Kelly scored on a wild pitch to put Immaculata up 7-0.

Blackburn would respond in the bottom of the third plating five runs to cut Immaculata's lead down to 7-5 forced Immaculata to go to their bullpen. Blackburn's bats stayed hot in the bottom of the fourth as they scored five additional runs to take a 10-7 lead.

Immaculata would answer in the top of the fifth inning as Kaitlin Carter singled to centerfield scoring Emma Pinto, and then scored on a line drive single to left by Rylee Martin to close the Blackburn led to 10-9.

Blackburn would then score twice in the bottom of the fifth and added an insurance run in the sixth inning to close out the win 13-9.

Immaculata was led offensively led Immaculata offensively by Rylee Martin who went 2-for-5 with two RBI's, Lauren Carboni who went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, and two RBI's. Elena Anglani went 3-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI. Kaitlyn Carter went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI. Bryele Anthony had four stolen bases on the day which is a new Immaculata softball single game record.

Riece Onorato took the loss on the day pitching two and two thirds' innings allowing five hits and five earned runs. Courtney Gable pitched three and one third innings allowing ten hits, and three earned runs in relief.

Immaculata will be back in action at the Fast Pitch Dreams Spring classic on Thursday, March 9th when the play a pair of games. The Macs will play Gettysburg College at 3:00 PM and Wilkes University at 5:00 PM, on Field 3 at North Myrtle Beach Park, both games will be livestreamed through the NMB Park live stream system.
