NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.- The Immaculata softball team (2-2) split their two games this evening in the Fast Pitch Dreams Spring Classic. In their first game, the Mighty Macs fell to Gettysburg 3-1 and defeated Wilkes in their second game 5-0.
In the first game, it was scoreless until the fourth inning, when Gettysburg broke through for a pair of runs on a two-run single in the top of the fourth inning. Immaculata would get on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning when Allison Hill's ground out scored Peyton McGowan to pull the Macs to within one down 2-1. With the tying run on third, Alyssa Daly flew out to deep right field to end the rally. Gettysburg would add an insurance run in the top of the seventh and hold on for the 3-1 win.
Starting pitcher Sarah Guido took the loss going the distance allowing three runs on 14 hits and striking out two. Bryele Anthony went 3-for-4 with a stolen base, Peyton McGowan went 2-for-3 and scored Immaculata's only run, and Sara Rode went 2-for-3.
In their second game, Immaculata was led by starting pitcher Courtney Gable who earned the win with a complete game five-hit shutout. In the few innings where Wilkes threatened, Gable pitched out of trouble stranding five Wilkes baserunners throughout the game.
Immaculata opened the scoring in the top of the third inning when Jess Oldham singled to right field and scored Carly Grandizio and Bryele Anthony. Carlee Karcher grounded out to shortstop and scored Elena Anglani to put Immaculata ahead 3-0.
Immaculata would add insurance runs in the top of the fifth inning when Carlee Karcher singled to center field to score Bryele Anthony and in the seventh when Carlee Karcher singled to center field to score Elena Anglani to put the Mighty Macs up 5-0.
Courtney Gable closed out the win for Immaculata in the bottom of the seventh inducing the final Wilkes batter to pop out to shortstop to give Immaculata the 5-0 win.
The Immaculata softball team will be back in action on Friday, March 10th for their final day at the Fast Pitch Dreams Spring Classic. The Mighty Macs will play Norwich University at 9:00 AM and will play Hilbert College in their second game at 1:00 PM. Both games will be Myrtle Beach Central Park Field 1. There will not be a live stream for these games since this is not available at that location.
