CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.- The Immaculata men's volleyball team swept their doubleheader at Wilson College 3-0 and 3-1. The Mighty Macs record now stands at 7-10 for the season. The seven wins is a new single-season program record for the Men's Volleyball team.
In their first match, Immaculata defeated Wilson by scores of 25-17, 25-19, and 25-21. John Bohrer led the Mighty Macs offensively with nine kills and one service ace. Garrett Pepper and Jack Debes each had eight kills. Joe Martell distributed 31 assists for the Mighty Macs. Thomas Pierce contributed two service aces. On the defensive side, Matthew Pfister led the Macs with 12 digs. Garrett Pepper had 11 digs, and John Bohrer had six digs.
In set one, Immaculata lead Wilson 15-14, then to a side out and Steven Dao served three straight points to extend Immaculata's lead 19-14. Immaculata went on to win the set 25-17, closing it on a kill by Jack Debes.
In set two Steven Dao and Jack Debes each served consecutive points, and John Bohrer added a service ace as Immaculata pulled away late in the set. Immaculata close out the second set 25-19 on a kill by Garrett Pepper.
Immaculata would close out the first match, winning set three 25-21. Jack Debes served six straight points to put Immaculata up 9-3. Jack Debes would end the match with a kill on an assist by Joe Martell.
In their second match, Immaculata defeated Wilson by scores of 25-22, 25-21, 24-26, and 26-24. Garrett Pepper led Immaculata with 18 kills and two service aces. Steeven Dao had eight kills, and Jack Debes had six kills for the Mighty Macs. Joe Martell had 30 assists for the Macs. Immaculata was led defensively by Garrett Pepper and John Bohrer who each had 13 digs. Joe Martell had 11 digs and three blocks. Thomas Pierce and Jack Debes each had two blocks.
In set one, the teams exchanged two-point runs throughout the set. Immaculata was able to hold on to take the first set 25-22.
In set two, Wilson built a 12-7 lead. Thomas Pierce and Joe Martell each served consecutive points as Immaculata even the score at 13-13. Jack Debes served four consecutive points as Immaculata led 20-16. Immaculata went on to take set two 25-21.
Wilson refused to go quietly as t Wilson refused to go quietly in set three as they forced a fourth set winning 26-24. In the fourth set, Wilson continued to battle. With the score tied at 24-24, Garrett Pepper got kill, and closed out the match with a service ace as Immaculata took set four 26-24 and the match.
Junior setter Joe Martell who had 61 assists in today's matches, now has 954 career assists.
The Immaculata men's volleyball team will be back in action on Monday, March 13th when they visit Bryn Athyn College for a 7:00 PM match.
